Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will join the party at level 3. Build your character using the options from the Core Rulebook. I am open to homebrew suggestions. Character creation will be part of the first session. In Daggerheart, collaborative storytelling begins at character creation. You start the adventure as an established party with shared background connections. To prepare for character creation, players should come up with at least three character concepts, one of which they then choose to play. Example concepts are: A grizzled warrior on a quest for vengeance! A noble mage on the run from their family! A halfling baker seeking the most delicious recipe ever! See here for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mt6UMTsscU

The current party

The party consists of a halfling fighter, prone to boastful exaggerations and a ribbet bard, overeager to become a proper adventurer. The party is already very prone to hijinks. So far we've only played session 0.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

“Those of you who haven’t played with Alchemy before: it is so cinematic, it is so moody, it is so cool.” – Spencer Stark, Daggerheart creator Alchemy VTT We'll be using a virtual tabletop, specifically Alchemy. Of all the programs to play online, Alchemy might well be the easiest to use and the prettiest to look at. Discord You will need a discord account for communication between games. New to Daggerheart? I'll happily show you the ropes. You can also learn about the Daggerheart basics here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bV2K5eoJgk

Safety

How Peter Sapperlot creates a safe table

The internet is dark and full of terrors. I wish to create a small but significant enclave of safety and inclusion at my tables. During a Session 0 we will address expectations and wishes for the campaign. We will utilize the Deck of Player Safety. During weekly sessions I will maintain an Open Door Policy. There won’t be any hard feelings or explanations needed, should you ever wish to step away from the table – temporarily or permanently. Furthermore, Alchemy offers an X-card feature. Leaving is a measure of last resort. Preferably, players use the X-card to indicate when something in the narrative makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. In the middle of every session, there will be short break for everyone to recharge. Before and after every session there will be short check-in, an opportunity for anyone to share how they are holding up – with regards to the game as well as in real life. As a player, I never liked tables where everybody just dashes away after the curtain falls, like a flock of very nervous birds. Sharing, naturally, always remains optional. As part of that aftercare, I will use Stars&Wishes. At the end of each session, players can award a Star to highlight a moment, other player or NPC. I will then encourage everyone to express a Wish, something they would like to see change in future sessions, or an idea they would like to become part of the shared narrative. I strongly believe in trust as the fundamental pillar of any ttrpg game. Without trust creativity can’t flourish, let alone any collaborative storytelling. Therefore, I will always strive to be a patient teacher, an attentive listener and an inclusive, non-judgemental host.
