About the adventure
If you've been playing D&D 5e and want something new, you're a beginner, or you're an experienced veteran, come experience this stunning D&D 3.5 open world campaign. Welcome to Tearfall's Beckoning! (SESSION 0 IS FREE!) Hardby’s streets stink of spilled ale and broken promises. Every sellsword and spell‑slinger here is chasing coin or glory, but you’ve been called for something heavier: a mad mage’s errand. Mordenkainen — once the sharpest mind in Oerth, now whispered of as cracked — swears Tearfall’s shadow is crawling back. The old calamity that lit the dragon wars, the one that burned empires to ash, he says it’s stirring again. And only his missing apprentice can choke it off before the world shatters twice. Problem is, everyone else calls the apprentice long dead, a ghost buried with yesterday’s battles. They laugh at Mordenkainen’s warnings, brand him a relic clinging to madness. But he’s bound you together, a party forged in desperation, tasked to chase clues through dungeons, armies, and schemes. Whether you’re hunting salvation or chasing a ghost, your trail starts here — in Hardby, where adventurers gamble their lives for coin, and the fate of Oerth waits in the shadows.

Creating your character
1) Players will create their characters during the first session, session zero. This game is beginner friendly. I will be assisting players through the process. 2) Stats will be decided by rolling four six-sided dice for each stat. If you roll a 1 or 2, those can be rerolled. Once rolled, the highest three numbers are added together to create your stat. 3) All playable characters will start out at 1st level. Again, this game is beginner friendly. I expect playable characters to reach 10th level by the time this campaign comes to a close, but higher levels are cool too. 4) For creating characters, all players need are a pencil (or pen) and paper. I prefer to keep things simple. All players will be responsible for maintaining their character sheets. As a precaution, I will also be making a copy of each player's character sheet. 5) Pertaining to character creation, players should look at Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Player's Handbook, Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Player's Handbook 2, and Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Unearthed Arcana. Links for these books will be provided as part of the prep materials. Please note that Player's Handbook 2 and Unearthed Arcana are both optional books and are not necessary for this campaign.
During session 0, we will be creating your characters. I will be assisting players and answering any questions players may have. I'm hoping players create a diverse party... but if you want to be a cabal of wizards, that's cool too.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
1) Players will need Zoom, or have the ability to join a Zoom meeting, in order to play. 2) Players will be required to join the Discord chat/group for this campaign. This way they'll be able to discuss with me as the GM outside of game, ask any questions they might have, and converse with fellow players. 3) As mentioned above, players will need to gain access to the books for this campaign. I will be providing the links for these materials.
What Jordan brings to the table
1) Of course I do character voices. How else am I gonna enjoy myself? 2) I do use tactical combat. I encourage my players to really get into their characters and think strategically and outside the box. Sometimes thinking outside the box can gain you more EXP. 3) I also encourage heavy roleplay. You've committed to your character, so dive in. I reward extra EXP for heavy roleplay. 4) I embrace the Rule of Cool for the most part, unless it relates to something we actually need the rules for like class upgrades, weapon damage, or what a particular feat does. 5) I encourage my players to explore the world as well. Just because there's a main story doesn't mean you can't take a detour. I enjoy thinking on my feet and playing open world campaigns. Now, even though players can explore the world, that doesn't mean I'm gonna scale anything down. If players enter a location they find to be too challenging, I encourage them to leave and return when they're a higher level.
Homebrew rules
1) I'm adding an additional stat to this campaign: Luck. This stat adds a bonus to your saving throws, AC (Armor Class), and certain skills. It's also the primary stat players will use for death saves. 2) I'm also adding an extra skill: Fate. The Fate skill will primarily be used for death saves and reincarnation rolls upon a playable character's death. To get ranks in the Fate skill, ranks are not added as normal. Instead, players will gain a rank in their Fate skill upon their playable character's death, so that the next time they have to make a death save they have a better chance at surviving. The main stat for the Fate skill is Luck. 3) There will be additional ways to increase your playable character's stats as well. As examples, your Strength score could raise if your playable character works out or lifts weights, your Dexterity or speed could increase if your playable character runs everyday, etc.

How Jordan creates a safe table
1) I will be providing a link to the Lines and Veils doc for this campaign. Players should view it and fill it out before session zero. 2) In session zero, I will be going over character creation, how X, N, and O's will work, my GMimg style, Rule of Cool vs rules, the open world gaming concept, and answering any questions that weren't already answered in the Discord. 3) As for aftercare, I plan to check in with my players, ask for their feedback on the session, and go over any wishes they may have. 4) For X, N, and O's, players are free to either message them or hold them up on video. Though, to be honest, it's easier for me as a GM if players hold it up on video.
