About the adventure
Sundown, Wyoming looks like any other frontier town. It's not. People keep vanishing. The richest man in town showed up broke a few months ago and now owns half the businesses. The marshal works for him. And if you ask too many questions, you're next. Turns out the rich man, Silas Wanamaker, is a failed gambler who made a deal with demons. He's been trapping souls in a cursed deck of cards. When the deck's complete, a portal to Hell opens under the town. He's one card short. Think Red Dead's Undead Nightmare or Westworld's "something's wrong here" dread. Frontier horror where the wilderness hides worse things than outlaws. Never played a tabletop RPG? No problem. I'll teach Deadlands as we go. We make characters together, then jump into the action. If you've played before, great. The system rewards thinking on your feet. Heads up: the Weird West doesn't pull punches. Wins feel earned. Losses sting.

Meet the Game Master
About me
The name's Laurel. I've been a game master since 2018, and have been loving it ever since. I enjoy weaving stories with my players that would be right at home in your favorite novel. I run long term campaigns, and use modules and random encounters as brainstorming tools. In my games you will never face the same problem twice, and I always use player backstories in every adventure. My favorite games are sci-fi settings, with a smattering of horror. Examples include Deadlands: Hell on Earth, Shadowrun, and Cyberpunk.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
We'll create characters together during Session Zero. No prep needed beforehand. Here's how it works: When: Session Zero is 90 minutes before your first mission. We build characters AND establish the neighborhood you're fighting for together. What You'll Need: I provide everything—you just need a character concept. Think about who you are, what you can do, and why you're willing to fight for Irongate. Examples: a former boxer with enhanced durability, a street medic with low-level healing powers, a hacker with tech expertise and minor psychic abilities, or an ex-gang member trying to protect their block. How Stats Work: We use Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) Power Level 2 rules. You get 4 Power Points for superhero abilities, standard skill points, and edges/hindrances that make your character unique. You'll be significantly more capable than normal humans but far from invincible—a well-placed shot can still take you down if you're not careful. Starting Point: Your character is Novice rank and knows the neighborhood. You might know each other already, or you might be strangers who happen to be in the right place at the right time. Books You'll Need: None! I provide all the rules you need and walk you through character creation. If you own SWADE or the Super Powers Companion and want to reference them, great—but it's not required. I'll have everything digitally available during our session. What to Bring: Just yourself, a willingness to collaborate, and an open mind about how your character fits into this community.
What Laurel brings to the table
I bring cinematic narration with character voices and atmospheric music—nothing excessive, but enough to set the mood. Combat is tactical and dangerous; positioning matters, cover matters, and consequences stick. I use the Rule of Cool when it serves the story and makes moments memorable, but I also run tactical encounters where the rules matter—you can't punch your way through everything. Mechanically, I Provide: Session Zero Character Creation – I walk you through SWADE Power Level 2 character building step-by-step. No experience needed. Pre-built Roll20 Scene – Maps, tokens, lighting, and sound effects are all set up. You just roll and roleplay. All Rules References – I have SWADE core rules available during play. If you need clarification, I'll explain it. Gritty Damage Rules – We use SWADE's Gritty Damage optional rules, making wounds more serious than standard play. One good hit can end a fight. Safety Tools – X/N/O Cards are available if anyone needs them. Table comfort is non-negotiable. My GM Style: Collaborative Storytelling – Your decisions reshape Irongate. I use your character backstories in every adventure. Consequences Matter – Your victories feel earned. Your defeats hurt. NPCs remember what you do. Yes, And... – I say yes to creative ideas when they make narrative sense. Your character's unique abilities shape how you solve problems. Inclusive & Welcoming – LGBTQ+ players, neurodivergent players, players new to TTRPGs—everyone is welcome here. I run safe, judgment-free tables. Cinematic Action, Real Stakes – This isn't a power fantasy. You're street-level heroes fighting systemic problems you can't completely fix. But you can make a difference in your neighborhood. Technical Stuff: Roll20 for maps/combat If you're new to the roll20.et VTT, Ill walk you through how to use your character sheet. Discord for voice only (no cam required unless you want to) 3-4-hour session with 10 minute intermissions at the end of each hour. Session notes posted in Discord for easy reference. What You Bring: Your imagination, your character's voice, and willingness to engage with the story. That's it.
