About the adventure

Have you looked at the D&D rule books and felt overwhelmed or confused? You are not alone! Come and let me help you learn how to play D&D and have fun while doing it. This game is focused on teaching new players how to play. We will go over everything you need to know. In a fun, relaxed and non-judging environment. We will cover Character Creation, Rules, Combat, leveling up and roleplay. My favorite part about D&D is that no matter how many times I have ran this setting, the story is always different because the choices and actions the group make, shift the story, and make it there own. So come and adventure with me as your guide! You could force a goblin to be your friend, Trick a dragon into attacking your enemies or just kill every enemy in sight. Whatever happens it will be a fun time!

About me

I have been a GM for over 10 years and have run several different styles of games. From hack and slash to deep story driven campaigns where players get to play out their character's goals and ambitions, while making an incredible collaborative story that will be remembered for years to come. When my players surprise me by coming at a problem from an unexpected direction, and completely derailing what I have planned is one of my favorite parts. I love this because it keeps me on my toes and sometimes the best parts of the story come from times like these. As a GM I take the role of stage setter and guide. So please come and share your stories on my stage. I look forward to running a game or campaign for you and your friends or a group of complete strangers that will become friends.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will go over how D&D works at session 0 including character creation. This will take a good portion of our first session. Dndbeyond does a great job of walking players through how to make there character, but I will help with more in-depth explanations and suggestions. -Starting at level 1 -Standard array is preferred but we can go with another method if the group would like. -Players are free to make what ever type of character they would like. I have no restrictions.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please come with your accounts for Roll20, discord and dndbeyond set up. Free accounts are fine for all. A computer and headphones works best. If you plan on using a phone or tablet just be aware that most do not get full functionality from Roll20 and other players usually get a lot of background noise if you are not using a head set. If this is happening I will ask you to mute when you are not talking.

What Tyler brings to the table

I bring over 8 years of Game Mastering experience and all my knowledge of Roll20 and dndbeyond. I also provide custom maps as needed and I am happy to take the story where the group wants to go rather then forcing you to go in one direction.

Homebrew rules

We count all nat 20s and nat 1s Death saves are rolled secretly.

Safety

How Tyler creates a safe table

During our session, we will go over safety tools to help everyone feel comfortable while playing the game. We will use the lines and Veils tool to help us stay away from content that is unwanted. If there is any content that the group does not want those are lines and Veils are things that we are ok with but only to a point. Some of my personal ones are explicit sexual content and torture. If any of that comes up in game I will use the fade to black method after a point to ensure that everyone feels comfortable in the game. This game will have an open door policy meaning if at any time during a session someone needs to step away, for any reason that is fine. I just ask that people be respectful and only do so when absolutely necessary, so that we can all continue to play without too many disruptions. I reserve the right as GM to play an absent players' turn if they are unable for any reason. I am happy to have a break about mid way through each session if the group would like. I find that it helps to have a point that players know is coming up, so that everyone can take care of anything they need to do then, instead of randomly through out the session. There are other tools that we will go over with everyone in our first session.
