About the adventure

PART ONE - THE ISLAND AT THE AXIS OF THE WORLD " In factories throughout the city of Flint, months of ceaseless toil by mages, engineers, and shipbuilders have finally concluded. Now well-wishers from across the nation of Risur have come to witness the launch of the world's mightiest vessel of war: the R.N.S. Coaltongue, impervious to spell and cannon and armed with fire that could slay even a dragon. On the docks, constables keep a close eye on celebrants and troublemakers; in the shadows, conspiracy and betrayal threaten this technological titan on its maiden voyage. " Meanwhile, on an island in the lush Yerasol Archipelago, enemy spies put their plans into motion, clouded with secrecy... " * * * * In this classic adventure path first written for Pathfinder and DnD 5e from the pen of Ryan Nock by EN Publishing, your characters will play as members (or associates) of the Royal Homeland Constabulary of Risur, a nation on the verge of an industrial age but still deeply seeped in its ancient druidic traditions. In these rapidly changing times, secret factions and competing forces are at play both within and outside its borders, so our party will have their work cut out for them between defending their homeland's interests and unveiling other dark tidings afoot ! With its story-first mechanics and flexibility of play, the DAGGERHEART system is the perfect tool to facilitate an exciting, thoughtful and dramatic emergent story that we'll build collectively through what we'll write - and roll ! - together...

About me

I'm an old-school, french-born GM who specializes in LIVE TEXT GAMES (these days Audio is of course a normal go-to for a lot of my games, but I started as a pro-GM with Live Text and still have a thing for it). After a long hiatus doing other Life Things, I got back into TTRPGs online a few years ago and have been running professionally mostly homebrewed 5e campaigns since 2020, with a good few forays into other systems. I'm very much into immersive and epic stories, involving a lot of larger-than-life (or at least amusing and/or interesting) encounters with the denizens of the world your characters live in. I add a good mixture of action, exploring, problem-solving and interactions with intriguing situations and colorful characters to spice it all up. Get in touch and we'll talk about what you'd like to run, and how... !

Character creation

Creating your character

While your characters will start at First Level, this is a fully-fledged campaign aiming to take them to the 10th level through a series of episodes. 🏹- All core DH classes are allowed, including the Void's Brawler, Warlock and Witch: even though their look and description will be reflavored to fit this steampunk setting, their mechanics stay the same as per the rules 🎩- Some new classes specific to this setting will be added, namely: Alchemist, Artificer, Forge Knight, Gunslinger, Machinist, Marksman, Mesmerist and Tactician. All include relevant subclasses and will be explained during our Session Zero. 🧨- Rules for the use of firearms and other steam-related technology are also provided during character creation, which will happen on Discord before we start the campaign proper 🔎💡📗 In conclusion: this Play-by-Post format allows for plenty of time and opportunity to get familiar with both our characters' creation and the rest of the DAGGERHEART game mechanics and I'll be here to answer your questions every step of the way. 😇

What to expect

Preparing for the session

🎭 Most of the game will happen on our DISCORD server through the written medium of PLAY-BY-POST, so you'll need an account there. 🎨 Visual aids will also be provided through Discord for anything ranging for scenic immersion, NPC portraits to tactical fights. We will otherwise use Theater of the Mind and the immersive powers of the pen / keyboard.

What Ash Drunbar brings to the table

We will be using the official "ZEITGEIST ⚙ Gears of Revolution" published Adventure Path as a base and develop our story from there. 👑🕵️‍♂️ Expect an IMMERSIVE and somewhat convoluted setting, rife with political and social unrest, social encounters and investigative storylines... Saying that, this campaign will be as intricate or as straight forward as your group will choose to play it, as I strive to keep railroading to a minimum. 🔭🦄 The continent of Lanjyr where this campaign takes place has clear STEAMPUNK / Victorian undertones, so you're encouraged to embrace it. Saying that, there are enough of the old ways around to justify creating characters with a much more medieval-fantastic vibe if that's what you prefer to play ! Just let your CREATIVITY be the judge. 📜📯 This is a campaign specifically tailored for Written TEXT and the PLAY-BY-POST medium. I find that this has many good points, but also demands some responsible involvement with it: ▶ keep in mind that the written form demands CONSTANCY of engagement: as such players and GM both are expected to post at least once per 48 hours (and not more than 4 posts / day in-character, so as not to bury the others in walls of text when they finally check on the latest happenings !) 😊 ▶ be aware that one of the drawbacks of this type of medium is that things can take LONGER to get resolved, especially during action and COMBAT-oriented scenes: be ready to exercise PATIENCE when needed, and give everyone time to post (providing they respect the rules above, baring which the GM has the prerogative to move things forward) ▶ as Daggerheart is a STORY FIRST system, don't feel like your character has to "win at everything". Embrace FAILING FORWARD and use that to feed the story if that's what the dice have decided. ▶ try to bring up any sort of issue or disagreement (either rules-related or personal) to the GM in Private Messages before making it a public matter. Saying that, never hesitate to voice your thoughts or objections as MUTUAL COMMUNICATION MUST FLOW FREELY ! ✨Most of all, HAVE FUN and ALWAYS TRUST THE STORY !✨

Homebrew rules

How Ash Drunbar creates a safe table

- The Monte Cook Consent List can be sent to any players previous to their first session (upon request only). - any player will be able to ask questions and add to it in our Discord Server. - the Stars and Wishes tool will be on offer but not compulsory. - we obviously expect everyone to be respectful of others and avoid abusive behaviours such as bullying, harassment, gaslighting and so forth. 💥 WARNINGS 💥 👉 Be aware this is a campaign with enough of a political and social undertone to warrant the following forewarnings: class struggle, tensions between some in-world nations but also races and ancestries and even some instances of casual victorian-style sexism may happen in the game world due to the nature of this setting but we obviously expect players to deal with these things carefully and in a respectful and mature manner. The unspoken agreement here is for each of us at the table to strive to always make sure everyone else feels comfortable with anything possibly triggering and/or immersion-breaking or simply too offensive. To enforce this, the GM will have an open ear to anyone wishing to establish lines or veils at any point in the story, starting with Session Zero. Never hesitate to reach out in DMs if anything feels off ! 💕 Even though this is a story containing mature themes (see above), we tend to prefer avoiding flirtatious or tendentious in-character roleplay, either within the party or with the NPCs you'll encounter. Read = NFSW and erotica in TTRPGs do exist but you won't find these here ! Thank you.
