About the adventure

Step into a world where infernal bargains shape the very fabric of existence. Chains of Asmodeus is a dark, high-stakes campaign set in the fiery depths of the Nine Hells and beyond. The mighty Lord of the Ninth, Asmodeus himself, has set his eyes on the mortal realm, and his schemes threaten to unravel the threads of fate. In this campaign, players take on the roles of adventurers with ties to infernal power—whether by birth, pact, or circumstance. Trapped in the intricate web of devilish machinations, you must navigate the complex politics of Hell, uncover forbidden truths, and confront the terrifying agents of Asmodeus before the chains of fate tighten and your souls are bound forever. Themes and Tone: Infernal Politics: Navigate the power struggles between devilish factions, each with their own agendas. Dark Intrigue: Unravel complex plots that could change the course of the multiverse. Moral Dilemmas: Face choices that will challenge your character’s alignment and resolve. Are you willing to make deals with the devil, or will you defy him at your peril? High Stakes: Every choice could cost you everything. The price of defying Asmodeus is steep—will you risk it?

About me

I’m pretty sure my love of immersive storytelling and Dungeons & Dragons began the moment I picked up my first Choose Your Own Adventure book in third grade. I was one of those “Talented and Gifted” kids of the late ’80s and early ’90s (we’d call it neurodivergent now), and let’s just say... sitting still wasn’t my strength (hello, undiagnosed ADHD). While most teachers didn’t know what to do with me, my third-grade teacher—bless her—sent me to the library instead of the office. After filing books and learning the Dewey Decimal System, I’d sneak off to the reading corner and dive into every adventure I could get my hands on. I didn’t just read those books—I explored every possible outcome, and something inside me came alive. Fast-forward to my 30s (yep, my 30s), when my partner introduced me to Dungeons & Dragons. My brain went click and then boom—and I’ve been hooked ever since. After over a decade as a player, I’m now stepping into the role of Dungeon Master, offering play-by-post games that are welcoming, patient, and perfect for beginners—or seasoned players curious about a slower, story-rich format. Whether you're diving in solo or bringing a friend (real or imaginary), I’ll guide you through the game at your pace. You'll get a deeply personalized experience built around shared storytelling, creativity, and emotional connection. Together, we'll carve out a little pocket of wonder—an escape from the chaos into a world where you call the shots. To me, D&D is joy, catharsis, and magic all wrapped into one. I’d love to help you find that, too. xo, Moss

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation for Chains of Asmodeus will take place during our Session 0. You don’t need to have a fully fleshed-out character beforehand—I'm more than happy to help you craft a compelling character that fits into the perilous world of Hell and beyond, or you can come in with a completed PC. This campaign is perfect for taking an existing PC on a new adventure as well. We’ll start at level 11 for this campaign, and as an intermediate to advanced game, the character creation process will be a bit more detailed than your usual one due to the complexity of selecting spells, feats, abilities, and other aspects that a lower-level character wouldn’t have to worry about. You’ll start with 7,500 gp, the standard equipment associated with your background, and you'll also be able to choose magic items to reflect your character's experience and power. Each new high-level character can pick either: 1 very rare magic item and 1 uncommon magic item, or 2 rare magic items. This will help ensure your character is prepared for the dangerous trials ahead in the hells, with the tools and power they need to survive the infernal bargains and temptations that will come their way. Stats can be rolled (using the table rule of 3 sets of rolls and choosing 1) or you can opt for point buy/standard array—whatever works best for you. We’re playing on D&D Beyond using the 2024 ruleset, and legacy material is allowed if needed, so just check with me first to see if something falls outside the new rules. I prioritize story and character development over raw stats, and I’ll work with you to tie your background meaningfully into the world of Chains of Asmodeus. The goal is to create a character who feels like they belong in this grim, haunted setting, navigating the dangers of infernal politics and temptation, all while uncovering dark secrets and wielding unimaginable power.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A Discord account – all game communication will happen here, so we can easily discuss story, character development, and any updates. A D&D Beyond account – we’ll use this for character creation, sheets, and tracking your abilities throughout the campaign. You’re welcome to start brainstorming character ideas ahead of Session 0, but there’s no need to have everything finalized just yet. I’ll be there to help shape your character concept and tie it into the world during our first session. This game is intended for players with an intermediate knowledge of D&D, and advanced players are preferred due to the starting level of 11. If you’re an intermediate player, I recommend selecting a class you’re already comfortable with, as this game will involve complex mechanics and higher-level play. Newer or experimental builds are better suited for players with more experience, or for those familiar with the DMing side of the game, as the complexity of level 11 adds extra layers to gameplay.

What Moss brings to the table

I provide full access to D&D Beyond content and all necessary digital tools through D&D Beyond. This is a play-by-post game, with activity typically happening Monday through Friday. Group session players can expect a blend of group quests and 1-on-1 story arcs tailored to your character—play-by-post allows us to explore secrets, side plots, and character development in ways that live games can’t fully explore. As this is an advanced game starting at level 11, I embrace the Rule of Cool outside of combat to keep things cinematic and exciting, but during combat, we’ll switch to Rules as Written for clarity and fairness. This allows us to focus on what matters most—your character’s journey through the infernal webs of Asmodeus’s chains. Expect a story-rich experience full of gothic atmosphere, dark intrigue, and meaningful character moments. I love integrating personal backstories into the larger narrative, ensuring that every character has a unique role in this hellish world and a reason to fight, bargain, or deceive their way out of Asmodeus's grip. The choices you make will have a profound impact, and the deeper your character delves into the horrors of this world, the more they will uncover about themselves and their true motivations.

Safety

How Moss creates a safe table

This game may include romance, drama, and emotionally charged moments, but nothing will happen without your explicit consent. During Session 0, we’ll discuss boundaries, comfort levels, and use tools like Lines, Veils, and safe words to ensure everyone feels respected and empowered throughout the campaign. Given that this is a hell-themed campaign, violence, emotional harm, and unsettling themes may arise, but we will clearly define what is off-limits and what is handled off-screen (fade-to-black). Your enjoyment and comfort are paramount—consent is key, and it will always be respected. There will be secrets between characters, and occasionally between players, but nothing will undermine anyone’s safety or comfort. I will always check in privately before incorporating any plot twists, betrayals, or sensitive material. This is a collaborative story—we’re here to build a powerful and engaging narrative together, and everyone’s voice is vital in shaping that experience.
