About the adventure
BLACK COMEDY NARRATIVE WARGAME | PLAY WITH THE DESIGNER | PLAYERS GET FREE COPY & CREDIT IN NEXT EDITION BOOK Every hour of every day on Sixaura, the soldiers of each empire are killed and reborn in an endless loop. Their dead bodies derezz, the bonds between their nanos dissolving—just to be reassembled elsewhere, fresh with the memory of death & ready to kill again. These clone commandos do not die, rest, or age. They're duplicated forever, frozen in the same unchanging body, save occasional gene-edits from top brass to optimize their killing potential. It's the only life they know. A meatgrinder without meat—a bloodbath without blood. And it's also, soldier, your life. PLANET FIST is an indie system where: 💥 DEATH IS LIFE: Don’t fear death, soldier. Pain is temporary, but war is forever. When the enemy blows your nanoassembled body to bits, you simply "derezz", dissolving into dust cloud of spent nanos. The pain of death still fresh in your mind, you're printed again at a reassembly tank & thrown back into the field. In PLANET FIST, 0 HP is only an inconvenience. That stupid idea that would either get your character killed or be really fucking cool? Do it, every time. 💥 SHOOTOUTS ARE STORIES: It's a combat heavy game, but that doesn’t mean it’s just a turn-based combat wargame with some wordbuilding as set dressing. For Sixauran soldiers, not even sleep comes to relieve them. They live on the battlefield, and must learn to make a life out of it. Chat, hang out, make someone laugh, get revenge. Show your crush that no one can operate a jetpack like you. Pass a joint while holding the objective. Live life as fully as you can—just do it with a gun in hand. 💥 FICTION FIRST: Don’t let the rules fool you: the story precedes them. The rules ensure your game is balanced enough to be fun, but you’re not playing a video game with a list of preset actions—if you want that, just go play Planetside 2 or XCOM. Express the fullest extent of what your character would want, and the GM will fit it to the mechanics. You miss 100% of the trickshots you don’t take. ========================================================= 🎲 Play with the designer of PLANET FIST—original system & winner of the FIST ULTRA JAM 🎲 Experience the black comedy of a war where victory is made up & the objectives don't matter 🎲 Revisit the chaotic energy of FPS LAN parties & boomer-shooter private servers 📽️ Touchstones: Starship Troopers, Helldivers 2, Star Wars: Battlefront II, Planetside 2 As a GM of 15 years, an award-winning TTRPG designer, and a published sci-fi author, I'm ready to paint a world for you...but don't just take my word for it. About me
Hi! I'm Jess, and I'm: ⭐ An award-winning TTRPG designer ⭐ An experienced actual play podcaster ⭐ A published sci-fi author ⭐ A GM of over 15 years ⭐ A professional educator I especially love: 🎲 Running open-world, open-ended sandbox games driven by player agency and dynamic, interconnected factions, NPC relationships, objectives to make the world feel alive. 🎲 Sci-fi systems like Mothership and Shadowrun—I even have a circuitboard tattoo on my scalp. I also run my own games, like the Starship Troopers and Helldivers-inspired 'narrative wargame' PLANET FIST! When I GM: 🎲 I'm careful to make sure every player gets their turn in the spotlight. 🎲 I always weave player-created backstories into the existing world. 🎲 As a designer of multiple GMless games, I'm skilled at bringing the best contributions out of other players at the table, enabling them to contribute and help shape the overall world. 🎲 My players praise my knack for drawing connections between characters and stories, in ways that make the world feel rich and inhabited. You can hear me GM on AP podcasts like Role Playing Public Radio, and facilitate my award-winning GMless games Going Rogue and I Have the High Ground on podcasts like A More Civilized Age, One Shot, Party of One, and more.

Creating your character
PLANET FIST character creation is meant to be done at the table. The creation mechanics establish existing relationships between your squad members, with intertwined backstories at time of creation. In PLANET FIST, creation is a storytelling opportunity—its own kind of play. I'll be there to walk you through the process. Squad creation usually takes 1-1.5 hours, leaving plenty of time to play a full mission in the remaining window!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
✅ Players will be provided a free prerelease PDF copy of PLANET FIST: Faithless Edition—a near finished new edition of the game. ✅ Players are encouraged to read the player section of the rulebook before the game, to maximize their ability to apply the rules & player's tools at the table, but there's no need to memorize & reading isn't even required. Jess will be there to guide players through the rules throughout play, and teach them from scratch at the beginning if needed! Additionally: ✅ Players will need to join either a Discord server or Discord group chat (if they would prefer not to join a new server) ✅ The game will be hosted via a Discord audio call. ✅ Players will be polled on both their comfort and desire with inclusion of video—if everyone is comfortable and anyone desires it, we'll play with video on. ✅ If some players are uncomfortable with video, but anyone would like me as GM to have my video on, I am also opening to being the only one on video! ✅ I'll show the battlemap through the free, easy-to-use VTT Owlbear Rodeo—though if players all agree they'd be more comfortable with another VTT, I can accommodate and switch! ✅ Google Sheets will be used for character sheets

How Jess creates a safe table
Given that PLANET FIST is full of video game-y hyperviolence, the proper use of safety tools & safety discussions is particularly important. To that end, in addition to lines & veils, PLANET FIST uses a unique tool at the beginning of the session, where players respond "Yes", "No", or "Hell Yeah" to the following items. Any of which that have at least one "No" are removed, and any elements with any "Hell Yeah"s and 0 "No"s are emphasized. 💥 HIT DESCRIPTIONS: Describing where and how people get hurt, beyond just that they're "hurt" or "hit." PLANET FIST can be a bit difficult to play without this, but not impossible! 💥 VIDEO GAME VIOLENCE: Team Fortress 2 & Quake style "gibbing" in which you might describe bodies exploding into (potentially bloodless) chunks which scatter and roll before dissolving into a cloud of spent nanos. 💥 BLOOD: Bloodied bodies, blood on the ground. At the "Hell Yeah" level, could even indicate blood spray, blood splatter on the walls, or explosions into fine mists of blood. 💥 BODY HORROR: Let's be more than bloody. This violence is meant to terrify. In addition: ✅ A Lines and Veils document will be sent out beforehand for players to add lines and veils, then reviewed at the beginning of the session ✅ Players may send X (stop), N (change direction), or Os in chat or by indicating them verbally—as I always tell my players, I used the X-card live on a stream demonstrating one of my own games, so believe me, it's totally okay to use the X-card! ✅ There is an Open Door policy, and players are welcome to leave or pause play at any time In addition, it should be noted that the particular adventure being run for this one-shot includes a "combat stimulant" drug as a plot point. This drug is not depicted as addictive in any way, nor are themes of addiction depicted at all.
