About the adventure
The Indie Tabletop RPG Club Discover strange worlds, heartfelt stories, and beautifully broken dice mechanics. Welcome to the Indie Tabletop RPG Club — a space for curious minds, storytellers, and adventurers who want to go beyond the usual dungeon crawls and dragon hoards. Each session, we dive into the vibrant world of independent tabletop roleplaying games, exploring systems that spark imagination, emotion, and creativity. From the doomed metal mayhem of Mörk Borg to the cozy journeys of Wanderhome, from solving cosmic mysteries in Brindlewood Bay to surviving a candlelit nightmare in Ten Candles, every game offers a fresh way to play, feel, and connect. What to Expect • A rotating schedule of hand-picked indie RPGs — easy to learn, rich to play. • Sessions designed for both newcomers and veterans, with gentle onboarding. • Opportunities to try new genres: horror, whimsy, sci-fi, mystery, romance, surrealism, and beyond. • Collaborative storytelling that prizes imagination, character, and emotion over stats and crunch. • A friendly, inclusive table where creativity comes first and everyone’s voice matters. Who It’s For • Players who love story, atmosphere, and character moments. • Fans of games like Monster of the Week, Blades in the Dark, Mothership, or Alice is Missing. • Anyone who’s ever thought, “I wish RPGs felt more like art, improv, or weird fiction.” • People curious about small-press and zine RPGs who want to taste a bit of everything. How It Works Each month we spotlight a new indie system or theme — sometimes a one-shot, sometimes a short series. You can drop in, stay for a mini-campaign, or become a regular in our creative circle. No previous experience needed — I’ll handle the rules, safety tools, and setup. All you need is a sense of wonder, a working mic, and a love for stories that take risks. Some of the games that are available to play: Choose from 100s including... About me
My name’s Paul, though at the table I’m best known as Thee Silvery Bard—a playful nod to the 5e spell Silvery Barbs. The name embodies my style: bold, imaginative, and guided by the Rule of Cool. My mission is simple: to create unforgettable, collaborative stories where every player shines. Performance has been in my blood since childhood. I’ve worked as a musician, a stand-up comic, and a teacher—but nothing has been as fulfilling as stepping into the role of Game Master. Over the years, I’ve performed for the BBC in the UK and NBC in America, earned awards, and produced shows that left audiences captivated. Whether it’s celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons or exploring a hidden indie gem unearthed from the shelves of London’s legendary Orc’s Nest, I bring the same promise: a gaming experience that is brilliantly creative, deeply kind, and endlessly entertaining.

Creating your character
Each week we'll look at different character creation.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Join the Discord then get some paper, a pencil and dice. I'll send PDF information for next game 24 hours after the last. GENERAL ITEMS FOR MOST INDIE TTRPGs • Players (usually 2–5; some solo, some GMless, some full groups) • Character sheets (printable or digital—often included as free PDFs) I'll provide. • Dice (varies wildly: d6s, d10s, 2d6, d20, or full polyhedral sets) • Writing materials (pencils, pens, dry-erase markers, notebooks) • Tokens / counters (for tracking stress, momentum, conditions, etc.) • Index cards or post-its (great for scene prompts and notes) • A quiet space or online tabletop (physical table, Discord, Roll20, Foundry, etc.)
What Thee Silvery Bard brings to the table
What I Provide My Players When you sit at my table — whether in person, online, or wandering through a haunted English estate — you can expect a game that’s cinematic, character-driven, and full of heart. I aim to create stories that live and breathe, where every decision matters and every dice roll feels like a turning point in a shared tale. Atmosphere & Performance • I use character voices and accents (some better than others) to bring NPCs to life — from gruff dwarven smiths to mysterious ghostly whisperers. • Expect ambient soundscapes: creaking floorboards in haunted halls, rain on cobblestones, or the hum of a neon cityscape. • I enjoy setting a tone — sometimes spooky, sometimes comedic, always immersive. Gameplay Style • I embrace the Rule of Cool over strict rules-as-written; clever, cinematic, or hilarious ideas often get rewarded. • I run collaborative storytelling — your ideas shape the world as much as mine. • Combat can vary from fast, narrative-driven scrapes to tense tactical showdowns depending on the game system. • I prioritise player agency and improvisation — if you surprise me, even better! Tone & Themes • My games balance humour with depth. Expect moments of laughter, but also heart and tension. • Themes often touch on identity, purpose, and belonging — the emotional side of adventure. • You might find traces of folk horror, British eccentricity, and heroic absurdity in equal measure. Player Experience • I provide visual aids, maps, and music where possible. • Safety tools are always in play: everyone should feel comfortable, respected, and part of the story. • Whether it’s a one-shot or a long campaign, I’ll ensure every player gets their moment to shine. What You’ll Get • A welcoming, creative space for storytelling. • Encouragement to experiment and fail spectacularly. • A GM who genuinely wants you to have fun, be surprised, and feel part of something memorable.
