About me

Veteran GM specializing in immersive storytelling and player-driven narratives. With 3 years on StartPlaying, 64+ games hosted, and a perfect 5.0 rating across 21 reviews, I create engaging campaigns that balance tactical challenge with narrative depth. I'm known for professional Roll20 preparation, patience with new players, and adaptive storytelling that responds to your choices. My games feature intelligent NPCs, meaningful consequences, and worlds that feel alive. I bring real-world knowledge from physics, teaching, and tactical training to create believable spacecraft operations, alien ecologies, and combat encounters that reward clever thinking. My AI-enhanced prep workflow delivers detailed maps, handouts, and NPCs with a 1:1 prep-to-play ratio. Available for Traveller (my specialty), D&D 5E, Pathfinder 1E, and GURPS. I adapt to your group's preferences—gritty realism, space opera, tactical combat, or political intrigue. Roll20: https://app.roll20.net/users/160701/bruce

Character creation

Creating your character

Create your character using Mongoose Traveller 2e's lifepath system—a mini-game that builds your backstory through career choices. Focus on characters who work well in teams and suit the campaign. Write a brief background (a sentence or two per career stage). I'll read it and personalize adventures to your story. For example: psionic characters will find this affects the narrative. Hard Mode Warning: Character death is possible. Consider creating a backup character—ideally positioned as a secondary PC already in the campaign. House Rule: You may "cheat" once on one die roll during character creation to fit your character concept. Use it wisely!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Microphone & basic skills with Discord. I can train you on any technical issues that may arise. Have a working account in Roll20 and Discord. You don't need to know any Traveller rules. I run a fast-paced rules-light game and will gradually introduce what you need to know. New to Roll20 or Discord? No problem—I provide tech support before and during sessions.

What Bruce brings to the table

I provide professional VTT setup with detailed Roll20 maps, tokens, and custom content. Sound effects and special effects enhance key moments (I don't use continuous ambient music). Your group chooses the campaign direction—whether that's Pirates of Drinax, Secrets of the Ancients, or a fully custom adventure. The ongoing story follows your characters' interests and commitments. My GMing style: Player-driven narratives, intelligent opposition using real tactics, meaningful consequences, and collaborative worldbuilding. I balance challenge with fairness—expect "hard mode" difficulty that rewards clever thinking over dice luck.

Homebrew rules

GM generally sticks to Mongoose Traveller 2 rules but reserves the right to alter any and all rules as needed to fit the Rule of Cool. Your GM has been running Traveller games since 1981 but is still learning intricacies of the Mongoose Traveller 2 rules set.

Safety

How Bruce creates a safe table

My stories are PG-13+ by default—think Firefly or Serenity. This includes intense situations and some scary content, but extreme events happen off-stage. Sexual content: I typically fade to black. However, I'm open to bawdy humor or slightly more mature themes (without becoming pornographic) if the entire table unanimously requests and consents. Think adult storytelling, not explicit content. Players should tell me in Session 0 about any themes or topics that might be problematic. Safety and comfort come first.
