About the adventure

Three families vie for control of the City on the Mountain. Blood on the streets. Whispers in dark passageways. Plans hatched in marble majlis. Murder and theft are nothing more than moves in the Great Game. The common folk do their best to survive. Will you be their champion? Or fall off the mountain, another victim of the scheming from the precipice? Vault of the Peerless Prism is a Swords and Sorcery campaign using DnD 5.24 ruleset, with heavy themes of seedy politics, Machiavellian social maneuvering, and cutthroat thievery. Combat is rare but lethal. The politics are less rare, but no less dangerous. Morality is grey and no choices come without cost. Pull up the hood of your cloak, sheathe your dagger in the sole of your boot, and join the party! Welcome to Threshold, where the mask you wear might obscure more than what lies beneath it...

About me

Leave your blade in its sheathe, pull up a chair, and recover your spell slots. We have a story to tell, a tale, a quest. Fair maidens to slay, terrifying dragons to rescue, and kingdoms to lead to ruin. Or something like that. Welcome and well met, my name is Ryan and I am the Barefoot DM. I started many years ago running terrible homebrew campaigns in the first edition of Pathfinder, but you can now find me wandering the wilds of Faerun in Fifth Edition DnD, recording the deeds of epic heroes and vile villains, telling stories of might and wonder. I run a table where the story is something my players write and the ending is never certain. All are welcome at my table and the rules are as flexible as they need to be. I've run games everywhere from pubs in Australia to bomb shelters in Syria and love to witness the creativity and innovation of my players. So welcome! And roll initiative.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players begin with characters at first level, using the new character creation rules in the 2024 PhB! Homebrew content is possible, and if you have a solid idea for a character that you'd like to play out we can work together to create something that will fulfill your vision. Stats will be rolled during our first session, after which we will put together a shared background for the party.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need an account on DnD Beyond, which we will be using for character sheets and battlemaps. In addition, you'll need a Discord account and a microphone. Webcams are optional but heavily encouraged. All of these (excepting the microphone) are completely free and no paid content is required. All sourcebooks are available and provided once you have access to the campaign.

What The Barefoot DM brings to the table

This game is running using the brand new 2024 PhB! Legacy content is allowed, but I'm excited to try out the new rules with all of you! If any player has a character concept or idea that is not compatible with 5e, I am happy to work with you to build a homebrew option that is balanced and conceptually consistent.

Safety

How The Barefoot DM creates a safe table

Gameplay will be heavily roleplay focused, with thrilling heists, assassinations, and political missions. Combat will be infrequent but the consequences will always be severe for either victory or defeat. Session 0 will cover the rules of engagement as well as lines and veils. Essentially, in case you're not familiar with the terms, we'll lay down the expectations for what will and won't happen in the game.
