About the adventure
All you wanted to do was take a nice, relaxing, riverboat cruise on the Thames! You begin play in London in 1922. Why are you there? That's up to you! Who are you? You decide! You will eventually find yourself on a quest / race to collect the pieces of a dangerous occult relic before the bad guys do. All aboard the Simplon-Orient Express! The most luxurious and fashionable mode of travel of the Jazz Age. Horror on the Orient Express is a classic cosmic horror adventure that takes place in 1922... and beyond! Make stops in Paris, Milan, Venice, Belgrade, Constantinople, Victorian London, Reign of Terror France, Medieval Europe, the Roman Empire, and elsewhere. Desperate combat with maniacal cultists? It's gonna happen! Maps, handouts, notes, and artwork? I got 'em! Dynamic storytelling with interesting NPCs, including “OMG, it's her!!” historical figures? I got 'em! All the game resources to begin your investigations? I got 'em! Play that is friendly to beginners while still challenging to veterans? I got it! An atmosphere of inclusion for all, in character and out? I got it! My own Discord server for discussion, questions, or just chopping it up with new friends? I got it! Note: This campaign, like many Call of Cthulhu campaigns, is quite long. This will be a weekly game lasting three hours per game. At that pace, Horror on the Orient Express can take over two years to complete. That said, the ongoing plot is easy to explain, which makes it convenient for players joining in at any point of the journey. There will be plentiful opportunities for roleplaying as you interact with everyday NPCs, including historical figures, both aboard the train and in the cities you visit. Rescue the distressed! Thwart villains! There will even be opportunities to play as characters from different eras of the past. There will also be plentiful opportunities for combat. The bad guys are going to try and kill you, after all. There will be plentiful opportunities to uncover mysteries and gather clues as you piece together (literally!) the true nature of your opponents and their motives. A clue you find in London may not reveal it's importance until to get to Milan!

About me
Hey! My name is David Miller and I have been playing tabletop role playing games since I was 15 years old. That was in 1984! That makes me what's called a Grognard. Or they used to call it that? I digress. I have played D&D (every flavor except 4th edition), Call of Cthulhu, Gamma World, Top Secret, Boot Hill, Star Frontiers, Car Wars, Bushido, Powers and Perils, Traveller, Rolemaster sillyness, Toon!, Marvel RPG, Empire of the Petal Throne, Talislanta, Middle-Earth Role-Playing Game, Night's Black Agents, Paranoia, Pathfinder, Runequest, Savage Worlds, Shadowrun, Star Trek, Star Wars, Warhammer Fantasy RPG, and ALL of the Storyteller / World of Darkness flavors. Ah! The 90s!! I started running many of those games shortly after I started playing them. Most of my experience has been running Call of Cthulhu and the World of Darkness games, kind of in that order. I have run games at home, at game stores, at cons, and online for friends and for strangers. I am a father of three, a licensed therapist, an Auburn University graduate (War Eagle!), a survivor of the Satanic Panic, and a storyteller from a long line of storytellers. I also grew up in the same place as Boo Radley. Sort of. They have made TWO movies about my home town! I am confident that if you join one of my games you will enjoy yourself. Otherwise, I wouldn't be trying to charge money for it, right?
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Your character begins play in London in 1922, so you will need to think of a character that would have a reason to be there at that time. You could be a local, a tourist, an expatriate, etc. If you want to go ahead and make a character, you can do so using The Dhole's House ( https://www.dholeshouse.org/ ). Use the Point Buy Characteristics method, Classic 1920's as the Game Era, and max 75 for the Skills Cap Options. I also have pre-gens if you prefer that. In addition, I will meet with each player individually to assist each player with character creation, discuss the setting and rules, test drive Discord and Roll20, and discuss the safety tools / identify any triggers or boundaries that I need to be aware of.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You need some version of an internet connection, device or devices that Discord and Roll20 will work on, and a working microphone. You can use a webcam if you like. Or not! I use Roll20 for the virtual table top and Discord for audio and messaging, so you will need a Discord and Roll20 account.
What Keeper David brings to the table
I am bringing more than 30 years of experience at running role playing games at home, at game stores, at cons, and online. I have run games for young and old (and AS young and old), friends and strangers, beginners and veterans. I will also provide access to my Discord server and Roll20 page. Maps, reference materials, notes, photos etc. will be posted on Roll20 and/or discord. I will organize it so that everyone should be able to follow the unfolding mystery and enjoy the experience.

Safety
How Keeper David creates a safe table
We will go over “what is everybody comfortable / uncomfortable with”, safety rules, conduct, expectations, comfort with mature themes, content warnings, etc. individually during character creation and as a table during Session 0. Aftercare will be assessed during the debrief at the end of every session. XNO signaling will be determined during session 0, depending on how the players want to do that.
