About the adventure
Completing Chapter 1 is not a pre-requisite for this adventure. _________________________________________________________________ It is the summer of 1923 and you are member of The Society for the Exploration of the Unexplained (SEU), an informal, extra-curricular society based at Miskatonic University in Arkham. The society was founded in 1889 by a group of professors and students who had a mutual interest in unexplained phenomena. The SEU has gained some minor public notoriety through their assistance in a number of police investigations that came to the attention of the press. The members of the society are often sought out by the authorities, as well as private individuals, who are in need of help with all manner of strange mysteries. Nowadays, the SEU meets once a month in a private reading room of the university’s library, where tales of exploits are shared and current mysteries conjectured. When an interesting case is presented, the leaders of the SEU choose the most suitable investigators from among its members to tackle the mystery. Rupert Merriweather was once a member of the SEU, but he and a few fellow members formed their own splinter group to delve deeper into dark magic. Rupert has reached out to the SEU and asked for you (specifically) to meet him at St. Mary’s Teaching Hospital in Arkham at one o’clock on Thursday. He is unwell and seems not long for this world. The SEU hasn't heard from the man for quite some time, so this urgent summons appears to be quite important.

About me
Running live games in the San Antonio, TX metropolitan area and online games for anywhere in the world. I've been playing D&D since 1983 and DMing since 1985. Creating worlds to be explored and working with others to create memorable stories is an absolute joy. Life has forced me to abandon my hobby a few times but I found my way back because this is such a unique thing - collaborative storytelling in which everyone is a major character. I love being a part of tales that will be remembered forever. My job is to ensure everyone is having fun, whether you're the diva, the wallflower, or somewhere in between. My decades of experience allow me to change my approach based on the group's familiarity with the rules. In fact, running a game for a group completely new to gaming puts a huge smile on my face. My sense of humor has been described as a bit on the dark and sarcastic side, and I set a more serious tone in my worlds. I don't force that tone on the players, though, so you're free to do what you want. At the same time, I try to ensure my worlds make sense, so actions have consequences. Succeed and you will change the world. Fail, and you also change the world. Adventuring is a dangerous occupation (otherwise everyone would do it) so you should expect appropriate challenges. I excel at in-person games (San Antonio, TX) but a majority of my games are run on Roll20 + Discord because I gave up on WotC's virtual tabletop. I mostly run D&D 5e but also run BECMI D&D, AD&D 1e, Aliens RPG, Call of Cthulhu, Rolemaster, and Starship Troopers. I am semi-retired so have unmatched schedule flexibility.

Creating your character
5 pre-generated investigators are available to select from, or we can create characters during Session 0 (the first session of the campaign). Character creation will follow the streamlined process defined in the Starter Rules (available in-game).
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Again, there are 5 pre-generated investigators to select from or we can spend some time before the game getting one made. Everyone will need: - a desire to investigate the unknown - acceptance that this is primarily a game of investigation, not combat - a free or paid subscription to Roll20 - access to Discord (PC or mobile app) - working mic and speakers (headset/headphones recommended)
What Beowulf brings to the table
Message me at any time if you have questions. The game will be run in Roll20. There are custom maps, tokens, and macros that make it easier to focus on your character instead of the character sheet. Mood-setting audio is also available. I lean into Rule of Cool (do not abuse it) and reward good roleplay and lucky rolls.

How Beowulf creates a safe table
Absolutely no PVP (unless that's the theme of the game). One of my responsibilities as a GM is to ensure that everyone feels safe and respected and I do a pretty good job keeping a finger on the pulse on the group, but I need you to be adult enough to tell me if you're feeling unsafe, disrespected, or if we're getting close to something that you'll find overly uncomfortable. The Discord server has a private voice channel that can be used for discussions that don't need to involve everyone.
