About the adventure
In the not-so-distant year of 2273, the bicentennial of the great war approaches, and the Oregon town of Happy Valley is in need. As a cunning waste lander, naïve but pristine vault dweller, an ancient irradiated ghoul or a handy household robot, you can help to set things right in this small part of the world, and in doing so, open up the whole of Wasteland to explore, raid, loot, build community, establish trade, meet strange interesting survivors and mutants, and ride the wild freeways in your jalopy! No familiarity with the Fallout universe is required for this game, but it will whet your appetite for the post-apocalyptic beauty of the setting, and you might find yourself becoming a fan! This game is newbie-friendly and embraces all genders, orientations, abilities, and varying levels of silliness. Come join us for the dark and goofy world of Fallout on a road trip unlike any other..

About me
I'm Gherkin Picklewater, and I have been game mastering for about 15 years. I love sci-fi and fantasy. I have run many different systems, but prefer Fallout 2D20 and D&D. I run original campaigns that are story-focused and player-centric and feature a lot of exploration and a fair balance of combat and role-play. Beyond TTRPGs, I play Magic, am a professional performer, and an aspiring musician.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen in Roll Twenty during the first session. All players will start at level 1, and I will have pre-generated characters available for anyone who wants them, but the first hour of the first session will be spent building our characters and learning a little bit about how they fit into the world. We will be allowing Humans, Ghouls, and Robots only in this campaign to start. The player's guidebook is called Fallout: The Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook, and while it is available from MODIPHIUS, the publisher, it isn't absolutely necessary. I will have the free quick start guide available for everyone at session zero. We will also go over safety tools in the first session.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To play in this adventure, you will need a free account on Roll20 and Zoom, and it will be helpful for you to have a Discord account so you can join the game's Discord server. And obviously, think a bit about what kind of character you want to be and how you would want to spend the post-apocalypse.
What Gherkin Picklewater brings to the table
I like a balanced mix of combat and roleplay, and am very fond of creating NPCs to help shape my world. The campaign will have dark themes and still have a decent amount of humor and weirdness, as is de rigueur in the Fallout Universe. I tend towards character voices for most of my NPCs, and am a big believer in collaborative storytelling and the rule of cool. But I also believe in GM Fiat and trying to make the best world experience I can for my players, and to that end, I will bend the world to make it as playable and enjoyable as possible. All in all I want to build a world with you and let you play in it!
Homebrew rules
I use group initiative as opposed to individual initiative, but still allow for luck expenditure to adjust initiative timing, per the Fallout 2d20 system rules.

Safety
How Gherkin Picklewater creates a safe table
In session 0, we will use "lines and veils" to define what "lines", (items and concepts) are hardline no-go's for content in the game, and what "veils" are more of an it's ok to be implied to some degree but we don't want to have to deal with it head-on. We will also have an open-door policy where anyone can leave the game room at any time for their safety and well-being without having to defend themselves or explain if they choose not to. Thirdly, we will have a Luxton technique-guided discussion of any potential trauma triggers we can think of and want to guard against. We will debrief over Discord after the game, and I am also open to adopting any other safety tools you, as a player, want to bring to the table.
