About me

A writer, poet, and anthropologist, I love to introduce new players to the fantastical worlds I grew up in and love even more building new worlds with players of all experience levels (including no experience!) DMing is a passion of mine, something I am always striving to improve at: the physical world around me is littered with sourcebooks, notebooks, guides, print-outs, Post-Its, dice, half-painted miniatures, and other paraphernalia related to this incredible hobby. All of my games are LGBTQ+ friendly, and my tables are safe spaces where everyone is welcome, so long as they believe that everyone is welcome.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters can either be made from available sources, or players can choose a pre-made character with many elements predetermined - their species and class, as well as stats and spell lists - but players will be able to personalize them to their liking beyond that to make them their own. Players will be given time to inspect and decide upon their characters during the first session (called "Session 0") before we begin to play. Players that join after Session 0 will be be able to select from the same pool of playable characters made available to everyone else. Duplicates are allowed, though please don't everyone pick the same character Unless it's the dwarf cleric. That could be funny.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a free D&D Beyond account (https://www.dndbeyond.com/) to join in the game, and a free Discord account (https://www.discord.com) will be necessary for the voice calls.

What Gerald brings to the table

I will have the rules needed for the game available to players, as well as any other materials we'll need. I bring years of experience (and the experience of having run over 500 games on StartPlaying alone!) to the table, much of which was spent at conventions and online teaching new players! I also bring just... terrible character voices. Just the worst. 😃 Additionally, I bring with me a gaming community full of great weirdos. My Discord channel is full of fun people who love gaming in all its forms and fun conversations take place daily. We also run Community Events every month to bring new experiences to the table!

Safety

How Gerald creates a safe table

This game contains fantasy violence. Character death is on the table, as the Forgotten Realms setting can be absolutely brutal. Content warnings are non-comprehensive, due to the nature of a bunch of people coming together to hang out together while playing a game. If something comes up that makes you uncomfortable, there are many ways you can make that known, including X-Cards and Lines & Veils. You will never be expected or pressed to share your trauma history with anyone else at the table; simply saying "X this" is enough to change direction of the session.
