About the adventure
Welcome to Daggerheart — and to the Starless Marches! This introductory one-shot for first-level characters is meant to teach Daggerheart, as well as present the setting of the Starless Marches. Pre-made characters are available, or you're free to make your own custom character using Demiplane (content library provided free of charge!) Never played before? No problem! I'm happy to explain from the very beginning, and meet you halfway with whatever level of familiarity you have — whether that means you've watched every episode of Critical Role, or if you've never even seen Lord of the Rings.

About me
Hi, I'm Nicole! I'm an RPG blogger and professional GM/Storyteller from the Netherlands. I've played TTRPGs for over twenty years now, and I've GM'd for the greater part of that, with long-time experience covering Pathfinder & Starfinder; Daggerheart; World of Darkness games including Vampire, Hunter, and Mage; plus other titles like Fate, Dungeon World, and Blades in the Dark. All my adventures are handmade, giving me a deep personal connection to every campaign I run and the characters in them. Make an impact — change the worlds you play in! Additionally, my games are always new-player friendly. See a game you're interested in, but haven't played before? Send me a message!

Creating your character
Pre-made characters are available, but if you would like to create your own either before the session or at the beginning, that is fine too! The main requirement is that your character agrees to help the Guild with the Lighthouse reconstruction effort. In this setting, Elves are not playable ancestries. All other communities, ancestries, and classes from the base rules are available, including dwarves, goblins, and ribbets. We will play on Discord and Foundry, but I strongly recommend using Demiplane for building your character! It has an excellent guided flow that lets you read along and visualize all the choices you're making. Playtest material from the Void is allowed but it's not yet a part of the Foundry module, so I recommend sticking with the base rules.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need (free) accounts on Discord, Forge-VTT, and Demiplane (optional but recommended): https://discord.gg/YfkhkRsN6W — there is a waiting room to reduce spam. Send me a discord DM when you join and I can tag you in as soon as I see it! https://forge-vtt.com/ — This is the virtual tabletop hosting provider we will use. On game-day, I will post the link to our server instance. https://app.demiplane.com/home — Registration is free. Only limited materials are available, but Demiplane offers content library sharing. Let me know your email and I can share my library with you to unlock the full Daggerheart materials.
What Nicole brings to the table
I bring excitement, energy, and decades of experience to the table — along with a custom world I'm proud of that has been cooking for over five years now. I'm available for questions before any session, as well as feedback afterwards. This session is intended to run for roughly 3 hours.
Homebrew rules
This uses a homemade setting that is similar in some ways to Age of Umbra, but intended to be hopeful rather than dreary. This one-shot introduces the Starless Marches setting. On completion, you will be able to contribute progress towards the Lighthouse Construction Project, helping unlock community milestone rewards for the entire community!

How Nicole creates a safe table
Learning to play new games can be stressful, especially with total strangers! Rest assured, you're in good hands. In addition to teaching how to play Daggerheart, these one-shots also serve as "Session 0" for the West Marches campaign. This means we'll spend some extra time at the beginning talking about expectations: how much guidance and assistance you do/don't want from me; topics we're comfortable or uncomfortable with exploring; and what safety tools are and how they can be used at any time. We also use the following tools: Open Door, X/N/O Cards, and Breaks. StartPlaying provides explanations on these tools, and as mentioned, we will explain how to use these, should you need anything. Additionally — as an LGBTQ++ owned & operated space, we maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy for harrassment, hate speech, or any other type of "TRASH" behavior (Transphobic, Racist, Ableist, Sexist, or Homophobic). Maintaining a safe space for all my players is deeply important to me!
