About the adventure

Welcome to Bora, a land unlike any other. At its heart lies the Eternal Fount, a massive volcano that spills forth endless fresh water, sustaining the entire continent. This gift of the goddess Calypso has made Bora flourish... but it has also drawn danger. Monsters stir, ancient powers awaken, and the future of the land grows uncertain. You belong to the Adventurer's Guild, Calypso’s Chosen; an adventurer sworn to the guild that protects Concordia and beyond. While we will be drawing from the official Dragon Delves material, this story takes place in a living, evolving world of homebrew lore. Your choices won’t just solve puzzles or slay monsters; they will shape the guild’s future, alter Bora’s balance of power, and leave lasting marks on the continent itself. This will be a daily play-by-post game, designed for players who enjoy taking their time with roleplay, exploration, and collaboration. We’ll focus not just on the thrill of dungeon exploration and combat, but also on building the guild together, developing your character’s backstory, and seeing how your actions ripple outward into the wider world. Expect a blend of official adventures and homebrew twists, where the unexpected is always just around the corner. If you’re looking for a game where story matters, where your character’s choices are remembered, and where we create something bigger together, then this is the table for you. The world of Bora is waiting. Will you rise as one of Calypso’s Chosen?

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will begin at Level 1, but creation won’t be a solo task; we’ll build them together. My goal is to make sure every character fits naturally into the homebrew world of Bora and feels connected to the story we’re telling. Players will not only create their own backstories, but also build shared histories with one another. Once the full group is selected, we’ll work collaboratively to ensure each character has meaningful ties to the others. By the time the adventure begins, you’ll already know your companions as more than strangers; you’ll have shared moments, rivalries, and bonds that bring your party to life. We’ll use D&D Beyond for character sheets. Official first-party sourcebooks will be the default, but homebrew and other options may be considered at the DM’s discretion if they fit thematically into the world. The goal is to create characters that are both exciting to play and deeply rooted in Bora’s setting.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The game will take place on a private Discord server where I host my other play-by-post campaigns. We’ll be using a few simple tools to help keep things running smoothly: * Avrae - for dice rolling and character sheet integration. * Tupperbox - for in-character roleplay, allowing your character to “speak” with their own unique voice. * D&D Beyond - for character sheets and source material (a free account is required). If you’re new to any of these tools, don’t worry, I’ll provide tutorials and assistance to get you comfortable. Maps and visuals will be shared directly through D&D Beyond maps, with me handling the updates so you won’t need to juggle multiple tabs or programs. Finally, to ensure players are reading and following instructions, please include the word "Picklejuice" somewhere in your application. This little code lets me know you’ve gone through the details carefully!

What Andrew G. brings to the table

This is a Daily PbP. As the DM, I will be active every day, and try and do a minimum of 2 posts per day if not more depending on player involvement. My normal schedule has me online actively between the hours of 3 P.M. EST and 11 P.M. EST, but that may fluctuates as life happens. I'll be sure to communicate any delays or things that may be causing back up. This isn’t just another Dragon Delves game. While we’ll be using the official maps, creatures, and adventures from Wizards of the Coast, our story won’t unfold on the Sword Coast. Instead, it will take place in Bora, a homebrew setting I’ve been building and running games in for over five years. This world is alive, growing, and shaped directly by the heroes who walk it. As members of the guild Calypso’s Chosen, you won’t just be dungeon-delvers; you’ll be world-builders. Your characters’ choices, histories, and backstories will be woven into the heart of Bora. Expect your personal story arcs to matter, carrying weight beyond the Dragon Delves adventure and potentially continuing past level 12 if the group desires. You’ll also be part of something bigger than just the party. The guild itself is a living, breathing organization filled with NPCs, quests, and opportunities. As you grow, the guild grows with you; using the new 2024 Bastion Mechanics to expand and evolve alongside your journey. From forging alliances to shaping Concordia’s future, your impact will extend well beyond the dungeon walls.

Homebrew rules

A full list of house rules will be shared in the Session 0 Pamphlet, but here are a few highlights that help make play-by-post smoother and more fun: * Streamlined PbP Combat: Combat is resolved in group rounds. Players act together based on initiative order (before or after the enemies), keeping the action fast-paced and preventing long waits between turns. * Streamlined Exploration: Instead of rolling for every empty hallway, we’ll use passive abilities and only call for checks when something meaningful is at stake. This keeps exploration engaging without bogging down the flow. * Potions as a Bonus Action: To keep battles exciting and cinematic, drinking a potion only takes a bonus action. And that’s just the start; there are plenty more small tweaks designed to keep PbP fun, fast, and collaborative!

Safety

How Andrew G. creates a safe table

Your comfort and enjoyment at the table are just as important as the story we’re telling. We’ll be using a Session 0 Pamphlet to cover all safety tools in detail, but here are the key highlights: * Lines & Veils: We’ll establish clear boundaries (Lines) for topics that won’t appear in the game, and softer boundaries (Veils) for content that may exist but will be handled off-screen or with care. * Beacons: Alongside boundaries, you’ll also be able to share themes, tones, and story elements you want to see in the campaign. * Open Communication: I encourage ongoing dialogue. If something isn’t working for you, or if something needs to be adjusted, we’ll address it together. * Stars & Wishes: After story beats, we’ll share highlights (Stars) of what we loved and hopes (Wishes) for what we’d like to see going forward. These tools are here to ensure that your adventure as members of Calypso’s Chosen is a collaborative, respectful, and fun experience for everyone.
