About the adventure

šŸ”µ Enjoy live terrain and miniatures streamed to you privately! šŸ”µ Lord of the Rings Daggerheart introduces new mechanics and features, allowing us to explore the journey as much as the destination! šŸ”µ Explore Middle-earth and its lore and mystery! šŸ”µ Set in the Third Age, after the events of The Hobbit but prior to the Lord of the Rings trilogy! Lord of the Rings in Daggerheart creates a gritty, slower approach to the game, leaning into Tolkien's belief that the destination isn't always more important than how you get there. Not quite as gritty as other grid-by-grid hexploration games, LotR DH sets a nice middle ground for overland travel, where things can happen and story can evolve as we take each step. If you've wanted to feel every step like you did when reading the books for the first time, while enjoying the familiarity and comfort of Daggerheart, this is where you want to be. Welcome! Let's tell a tale worth telling. Together. ───── ā‹†ā‹…ā˜†ā‹…ā‹† ────────── ā‹†ā‹…ā˜†ā‹…ā‹† ────────── ā‹†ā‹…ā˜†ā‹…ā‹† ───── I'll let some of my players tell you what you can expect at my tables! 🤩 "He is amazing! I've been playing D&D for 18 years and he's one of the the best GMs I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. Encourages player creativity and is great for beginner and veterans of the game. He help reignite my passion for the game, where even my own players noticed a difference in my GMing." - Alexander 🤩 "Bryan is fantastic, I've been a player in one of his groups for the better part of a year now and both the quality of game thats been provided and the environment which he has cultivated are beyond reproach." - Zac 🤩 "I've really enjoyed all of our sessions with Bryan. He's quite good at managing the technicalities, taking care of some stuff for us, and helping to create atmosphere and story. I particularly appreciate the number of times we've triumphed, or escaped, by the skin of our teeth. And how also there is room for interaction with NPCs and each other and a chance for character growth, not just levels but also story. The biggest value comes in having memorable moments with friends, and he's definitely facilitated that." - Knirun 🤩 "His combats are fun, and he is very engaging when describing what happens within the game. It's very easy to tell he puts a lot of effort into his games, and is incredibly attentive to his players wants and needs. I cannot recommend his games enough." - Trey

About me

I'm Bryan (he/him/40yo), and I've been GMing since I started improvising games with my friends 26 years ago. I enjoy running thematic, engaging games, incorporating music, handouts, and other elements to make each game feel alive. As a military veteran, I know what it's like to wrangle a group of people from different backgrounds, and I use that to facilitate the engaging and memorable games I host. I enjoy combat, but I think it's important to balance that with social roleplay, puzzles, and other interactions. Everything should happen with purpose and drive the game forward. Let's roll some dice!

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll go over the unique character creation options available to the Lord of the Rings custom campaign frame and make those characters during session 0.

The current party

New players will need to schedule a special one-on-one session with the GM to learn the basics of the game, make a character, and find a place within the world we're creating together. Session 0 is charged at the normal session rate. This Lord of the Rings-inspired campaign is elf-exclusive! All player characters are elves venturing around Erebor, Dale, and the Iron Hills in support of burgeoning trade routes, and ultimately our adventure will lead us up into the mountains, towards Gundabad, and perhaps even further north, into the Wastes...

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need to have access to Discord, D&D Beyond, a microphone and headphones. A webcam is encouraged, but optional. Prior knowledge of Lord of the Rings is welcome, but not required!

What Bryan/OddSquirrel brings to the table

I am bringing official Daggerheart content via Demiplane, an immersive soundtrack, and an array of miniatures and terrain streamed to you live!

Homebrew rules

We'll be using a selection of custom rules inspired by Adventures in Middle-earth and Lord of the Rings Roleplaying 5e. DOMAIN CARDS All Domains unlocked; no overlapping card choices. No "high magic" cards can be selected. FEAR Fear is NOT capped. DEATH MOVES Blaze of Glory: No change. Avoid Death: You automatically gain a scar (that can only be restored during the Yule Fellowship phase). Risk It All: As written, but when you would critically succeed, consider the Fear die to have rolled 1 instead (if Hope is also 1, consider it a 2). DOWNTIME The die rolled to gain Fear is 1d6 instead of 1d4.
