About the adventure

Step into a world where fate teeters on a knife’s edge, guided by forces you can’t yet name. It begins with a simple quest to the quiet town of Oakhurst—a call to purge the twisted evil of the Sunless Citadel. But as you plunge into its depths, strange omens shadow your path: a cloaked figure vanishing through impossible doors, a broken blade offered in silence, whispers that echo in your mind. From forgotten forges to deadly tombs, your journey weaves through seven legendary tales, each a fragile thread in a tapestry of destiny. This is no mere dungeon crawl; every step you take sends ripples through reality, hinting at a design too vast to grasp. What starts as a quest for glory grows into something far greater. A sentient blade hungers for souls and urges you toward a volcanic lair, while fragments of an obsidian point to a final reckoning in the Tomb of Horrors. Are you heroes shaping your own legend, or pawns in a cosmic game? The clues mount with every adventure: a dream-haunted traveler, doorways that defy space, a desperate plea from the shadows as giants threaten to shatter the world’s foundations. In this campaign, you’ll explore the iconic dungeons of Tales from the Yawning Portal, unravel a mystery that spans the planes, and face the question: who—or what—tips the scales of fate… … and at what cost?

About me

Welcome, brave souls! I’m your Dungeon Master, the chaotic puppetmaster of dice rolls and doom. I live to weave epic tales and unleash kobolds, traps, and questionable NPCs on unsuspecting heroes like you. Expect thrilling adventures, a sprinkle of sass, and just enough nonsense to keep you guessing. I’m here to make sure your heroes shine—or hilariously crash and burn. Bring your A-game, because I’m not above bribing the dice gods with coffee to spice things up. Let’s roll! Help this midlife crisis nerd not have to get a second job to buy more dice and electronics. 😂

Character creation

Creating your character

Character sheets will be at on your leisure. I do have access to an automated PDF (MPMB) if y’all are interested that I can provide which has access to all sources I have access to. If you need help creating your character reach out to me! I have all sources/books available via PDF that I can share as needed for use during my campaign. Just reach out! Character Creation Rules: 1. Level 1 character 2. 2014 content only (Legacy if using D&D Beyond) no 2024 content. 3. No race/class/source restrictions with exception to Spelljammer content. 4. Disable homebrew and Core rules (if using D&D Beyond). 5. Take standard (fixed) hit points on lvl up. 6. Point buy or standard if you're not sure how many points to put into what. 7. Default gear. 8. Any alignment (please reach out to me if you plan on having an evil alignment). 9. Reach out to me prior to multi classing. 10. Have your characters made 3 days prior to session 0 for me to review. (Or 1 day prior to onboarding if campaign is in progress). 11. No reading the book! No meta gaming. That will just ruin the fun for everyone. Starting setting will be in the city of Waterdeep celebrating the graduation of adventurer school, so be sure to have that in your character backstory. (If joining mid-campaign, I will work with you on how you got to the group.)

What DoC brings to the table

🐉-VTT will be via Owlbear Rodeo. 🐉-A mix of official maps from the module and custom maps both animated and still. 🐉-Custom tokens supplied by the players will be used. (Transparent PNGs and classic circle icons are supported) 🐉-Discord for communication. 🐉-All official WotC content with exception of spelljammer is used. (2014 Rules). 🐉-Open to various character sheet formats, however I recommend MPMB PDF for desktop/laptop users which I can provide if requested. 🐉-Game will be 95% RAW with small homebrew modifications for increase player benefit and ease of house keeping.

Homebrew rules

Potions - Bonus action to take as intended (with roll) or full action for max health benefits. Flanking - I use the optional flanking rules in the book. Weight - I do not use encumbrance but there is a DM judged reasonable limit. Ammo - Same as weight, I do not track ammo as long as we are within reason and effort is put in to pick up spent ammo after fights. Shared Loot - There will be a method to have a shared loot system so that story critical components are not locked by a non present player. (D&D Beyond has a new tool for this.) Non-Lethal Damage - I allow ranged attacks to also be non-lethal damage.
