About me
Hi! I started the hobby in 2018 and have been a DM since! I love the hobby and have played it all through university and since working full time. I live in Japan and love traveling, playing board games, having gatherings at my house, and meeting new people. I have taught dnd to dozens of people in my life and have mostly played in person until now. I love roleplaying and helping players get the most out of their choices. I think new players have a great energy and have awesome ideas about what is possible in narrative games! I have run and completed full published campaigns, short campaigns, holiday one shots, and custom games! I love this game and almost always have a home game I am running as well. Can't wait to meet new people and get new awesome memories with this game!

Creating your character
More info will be provided in the discord but, Dungeons and Dragons 5e 2024 character creation. Made using DnD Beyond, Roll 20, pen and paper, or anything else is fine! Point Buy or Standard array. Any published species and class. I don't usually encourage homebrew or Unearthed Arcana, but if you have an idea let me know and I can look into it. No evil or antagonist characters.

What Matthew brings to the table
I am your biggest hype man! I want to find ways to use the rules to help you solve problems or achieve your goals. If the rules are in the way of that, it is time to bend them! I will have music and I do voices for almost all NPCs. Through the voices and their mannerisms it should be easy to know who you are talking to. I enjoy the mental gymnastics of it all, so feel free to split the party! I will be shifting the camera between all characters very frequently. No one should feel left out in any capacity. Rule of cool is the name of the game here, and if you roll a nat 20 for stealth, you best believe you disappeared and are somehow part of the shadows, ready to strike from anywhere. And if you rolled that nat 1 trying to sooth a horse on a busy street, you best believe that horse stomps the sewer grate you are standing on and you plummet into the depths, only to find a group of rat men who think are a descended god to lead them to salvation.

How Matthew creates a safe table
Everyone should be comfortable throughout the entire experience. That includes before, during, and after the game. I will always allow anyone to stop the game narrative to address something that is happening in the game, did happen previously, or could foreseeably happen in the future. To pause the game the player can say the word "X card" or they can type it in the chat for everyone to see. Before the session I will provide all players with the Monte Cook RPG consent checklist and we will discuss lines and veils during session zero. Things change and if any lines or veils need to be adjusted during that campaign that is totally allowed. It can be anything from changing a creature type, creating new table rules in regards to making sure everyone feels respected and safe, or having a conversation with a player who is impacting the game in a negative way for everyone else. I am also a player at the table and will be held to the same standards as everyone else. I will also take full responsibility if I cross any lines or take the narrative in a direction that we don't feel comfortable with.
