About the adventure
Raccoon City, jewel of the American Midwest, nestled between the sixth and seventh Great Lakes at the crossroads of commerce and culture. It is August 2015, and the world changed five months ago on April Fools' Day. A mysterious almost-naked glowing green man named Omnius announced on every TV station that superheroes and magic were real, and that he had saved us all from an embarrassing timeline. Coincidentally, several public figures died under completely normal but statistically unlikely circumstances that day. Nothing has been the same since. And you, a Raccoon City teen, just found out you have superpowers. Characters should be between 16-19 human years old, or alien/magical equivalent. This game will explore the themes of city life, the ways superpowers are making every day weirder, and the ethics and responsibilities new heroes might feel they do or don't have. And of course, there will be plenty of defeating villains and the public notoriety that comes with that! This game will be run using Masks: A New Generation, including all available official material. This is a custom setting and campaign. In this game, you are the first big generation of superheroes on this Earth, and you get to define the rules going forward... if Omnius lets you. Superpowers and magical abilities before his reveal were vanishingly rare, around 1 in 100 million. Since then, though, it could be as high as 1 in every 1000 people. If you're from a super family, you're one of a very few that hid in the shadows, or perhaps you even came from the multiverse. Things are going from status quo to weird, fast, and you're the generation expected to keep up with this change and eventually master it. Will you?

About me
I've been running games around the table since 2010! I have lots of experience running games on Discord, live streaming on Twitch, and playing in text chats. I love creating spaces where people can really express themselves and explore what makes collective storytelling powerful, while having tools to stay safe and sane doing it. :) I am nonbinary and queer, and often incorporate these themes into play. I intend to have a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ players and those who support and ally with them.

Creating your character
Character creation will start in session 0, and ideally be done by the time session 1 starts. I will be available to discuss characters between sessions. Characters will be made from any available official playbook, or preapproved homebrew playbooks. Any format is fine as long as it's readable. I've seen a neat trick of uploading the playbook pdfs to google slides and annotating them there that I'd like us to try.
No party restrictions! This is an existing setting and may have crossover potential with another table of mine.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Skimming the rules ahead of time appreciated but not required. Mic required, webcam helpful but not required. Discord account and joining my server required. Characters will be made starting in session 0 and finished by the time session 1 starts.
What Nora K.B. brings to the table
Games will be done via a private Discord server, and Virtual Tabletop most likely through Owlbear Rodeo unless players have a strong preference for another service. Music is optional but if players would like to have it, I'm happy to include it. I like to let player interest lead the game and play to find out what happens. Combat and puzzles will be included but most likely less frequent than roleplay. Masks is pretty flexible already, but I also love to include Rule of Cool, and Rule of Do It For The Story. I personally like to use character voices, but players are not required to do the same. Dice can be rolled online or physically.

Rules as written. Custom moves may be added as play progresses.

Safety
How Nora K.B. creates a safe table
Session 0 will start with player introductions, safety tool introduction, discussion of how best to use them and what would be accessible for everyone, and collation of lines and veils in a pinned post or document. We then move on to campaign goals, setting information, character concepts, and get started on character creation with the remaining time. Video is encouraged but not required. X, N, and Os can be done via direct message, group message, visually or verbally depending on comfort or urgency.
