About the adventure
A city destroyed by falling stars ☄️ Terrible magic there for the taking ⚡ Rival factions vying for supremacy ⚔️ The baleful Haze twisting body and mind☢️ Fifteen years ago, the city of Drakkenheim was destroyed by a meteorite and blanketed in a baleful Haze that contaminates all that it touches. Without capital or king, the country of Westemär fell into a decade of civil war, and treasure seekers who braved the Haze-shrouded ruins returned with strange crystals, and stories of great treasure and even greater dangers. Five factions have since gathered, each with their own competing intentions for the city. Fifteen days ago, you set off on the road to Drakkenheim. Despite the tales of madness and danger - or perhaps because of them - you have personal reasons for venturing into the ruins. Deadly beasts, terrible powers, and cunning foes lie ahead of you, and the future of Drakkenheim is in your hands! This is a 5e (2024) campaign for 3-6 adventurers and will span from level 1 to 13. The campaign will use tactical maps for most explorations and encounters. This is a tale of twisted magic, dark dungeons, and dangerous politics in an open-ended adventure for determined heroes! Note: This will be a slightly more lighthearted take on Dungeons of Drakkenheim - less Call of Cthulhu and more Tim Burton.

About me
(he/him) Salutations! My name is Joshua, and I facilitate cooperative storytelling experiences. I have been GMing for 27 years with nearly 10,000 hours at the table behind the GM screen. Home games, con games, Short games, and long games. Simple, mysterious, Silly, or serious; I've run them. I believe that RPGs should be a safe playground where players can explore identities and ideas while feeling welcome and empowered. I design and facilitate my campaigns to center the player characters, weaving them into the world and building it up around them. My favorite genre is fractured fairy tales and fresh retellings of classic stories.

Creating your character
We will discuss character ideas and the party's backstory during Session 0. Please send your character sheet to me at least 24 hours before Session 1 for approval. I am available to talk through character creation ahead of time, and can provide a pre-generated character upon request. Player characters are 1st level with starting equipment. Use the Standard Array or 27 Point Buy for ability scores. Any officially published material is available for use, as well as new character options from Dungeons of Drakkenheim (and Sebastian Crowe's Guide) and homebrew and customization will be allowed, subject to review.
Party Composition: (Level 3) Paladin, Rogue, Apothecary, Wizard, Barbarian (2024 Rules)
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A microphone is required to participate. A webcam is encouraged, but not necessary. I will have my camera on, and I'd love to see you too! We will be using Discord and Roll20 to play, so you will need (free) accounts for both of them. You might want to download the Discord client as well, as many people find it a more reliable experience over the Discord browser application.
What Joshua brings to the table
As GM, I will provide the adventure itself, including maps and tokens. I will provide access to sourcebooks through D&D Beyond. I can provide pre-generated characters on request. Dice rolling may be handled through Roll20, through D&D Beyond (with the Beyond20 browser extension), or with physical dice.

How Joshua creates a safe table
Dungeons of Drakkenheim is a story of morally ambiguous factions coming into conflict over a region ruined by magic and destruction. This game will contain elements of trauma, body horror, violence, and peril comparable to a PG-13 rated film. Please let me know if there are additional things I need to be aware of to maintain your comfort and safety. Racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and all other discrimination will not be tolerated.
