About the adventure

You knew that your teams first mission right out of LANCER academy wouldn't be glorious. But even by first post standards, this has been... less than thrilling. Just when it seems like your first post will end the same way it started, a distress call comes through. You're the closest team that can respond. All you need to do is go to this little backwater planet no one's ever heard of, help the colony out until a senior Union patrol arrives. Attend the parade, get a medal, and hopefully receive some extra licenses from whatever corporation owns this colony. Should be easy. But why is the planet surrounded with intense radiation and static noise? Why are there hundreds of distress calls coming from this planet, thousands of years old? And why is it missing from every official galactic map in the first place?

About me

A warm welcome to one and all, but especially friends to all things that creep and crawl, the strange and the macabre. Make yourself comfortable by the fireside and let's tell a story together. I'm Arthur (he/him), the queer resident swamp vampire, or possibly just 3 gators in a trenchcoat. I'm a big fan of the weird, spooky, and strange and bring my enthusiasm for horror to the table whether that be skulking through the alleys of Miskatonic, roaming the Mists of Ravenloft, or avoiding the grinding gears of the eternal political machine of the Danse Macabre. I strive to create worlds that players can get lost in. I create NPCs with compelling backstories. And I like using music and props to help make the story more immersive. But above all, I'm the biggest fan of my players and the stories they want to tell. I've been GMing for over a decade since college. I've made lifelong friendships through this wonderfully weird hobby. There have been many systems that have come and gone over the years, but one thing remains constant: The hunger for fulfilling stories centered on the player characters. I also try to make my table as inclusive as possible. I've been able to explore many aspects of my identity thanks to tabletop games and understand how vital having that space can be. Session 0s are a must for the group to talk out what is and isn't appropriate for our table, and I am a firm believer in safety tools such as lines/veils and the X card. I'm always excited to introduce new folks to the hobby so never fear! (Except d4s. Do fear those, they're the worst to find underfoot) So grab a character sheet, light a candle, and huddle in close. The night is long and dark, but there are friends around this fire, and I can't wait to hear the tales you will tell.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen partially within Session 0 & partially offline. Interparty history and relationships will be built by playing a short game of Decuma during Session 0 that will provide some personal context for how the Lancers relate to each other. You can use COMPcon which is a free character builder that can help you build out characters or use Roll20's character sheets https://compcon.app/#/

What to expect

Preparing for the session

When you join I'll add you to my Discord server and give you a role that will allow you to access a private set of channels for the game. We will be using Roll20 to keep track of character sheets and to roll dice. Please make sure you have a Discord and Roll20 account - both are free and require no purchases!

Safety

How Arthur G creates a safe table

We'll have a session 0 to discuss the general tone of the campaign and the preferences of the group on things like lethality, kinds of horror, and how to handle sensitive topics that are linked to this campaign as written. The lines/veils doc will be anonymous and available for the group to change at any time during the campaign. We'll also determine how long people would prefer for the sessions & how frequently people would like to take breaks. X, N, O's can be messaged either to the group at large or can be sent to me privately.
