About the adventure
Welcome to Savage Tide, one of the legendary Adventure Paths from Dungeon Magazine. The story begins in the bustling free city of Sasserine, a vibrant port full of intrigue, danger, and opportunity. From smuggling jobs and pirate skirmishes to expeditions across uncharted seas, your party will uncover ancient secrets, explore perilous islands, and confront threats that grow darker and more dangerous with every voyage. This campaign runs in Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e, the classic edition known for its tactical combat, detailed character options, and deep customization. Expect crunchy rules, rich roleplay, and long-term progression that can take your characters from street-level adventurers to heroes shaping the fate of the world. If you love the depth of 3.5, this is your chance to dive back in with a full-length campaign designed for it. At my table, I focus on a balance of roleplay, exploration, and combat, giving players freedom to shape their path while staying true to the high-seas, high-stakes spirit of the adventure. Whether you’re here for swashbuckling pirate battles, tense political drama in the city, or the thrill of exploring lost jungles and ancient ruins, Savage Tide offers it all. All you need to bring is a character concept and a love for old-school D&D storytelling.

Creating your character
Character creation will happen together in Session 0 so that everyone fits smoothly into the world of Sasserine and the start of the campaign. Characters begin at level 1. Ability scores can be generated either with a 32-point buy or by rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest die. Starting gear is the standard equipment and gold for your class, plus anything reasonable that fits your background in Sasserine. Races and classes should come from the Player’s Handbook by default. If you want to use something from another official 3.5e book, ask me first—most of the time it will be fine. No monster races or races that require level adjustments will be allowed. Please glance over the Savage Tide Player’s Guide before Session 0 and familiarize yourself with Sasserine, since that’s where the campaign begins. The goal is to help you build a character that is fun for you and works well in the long-term arc of the Savage Tide campaign.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a free Roll20 account since that will be our main platform for running the game. Everything from maps to dice rolling will be handled there. A microphone and stable internet connection are required so you can participate fully. Discord is optional but recommended, as it gives us a place to chat, share ideas, and coordinate between sessions. We’ll discuss how we want to use Discord and any other tools during Session 0. No other software or downloads are required, though there are plenty of D&D 3.5 specific programs that might be useful.
What Caleb Powers brings to the table
My style of play emphasizes story and roleplay, with the choices of the player characters shaping the world around them in meaningful ways. I want the campaign to feel like a living world where what the party does matters. At the same time, I enjoy the tactical depth of D\&D 3.5 and will look for opportunities to use the system’s mechanics in fun and interesting ways. I stick close to the rules as written to keep things consistent and fair, but I won’t let the game get bogged down in endless rulebook flipping. The focus will always be on keeping the game moving, balancing narrative flow with crunchy mechanics, and making sure everyone has a chance to shine.
Homebrew rules
I plan to run the game mostly by the rules as written, but we can discuss and agree on any homebrew rules the group might want to include during Session 0.

How Caleb Powers creates a safe table
We will have a Session 0 to set expectations, go over character creation, and talk about table preferences. After every session, we will take a few minutes to debrief, check in on how everyone is feeling, and make sure the game is working well for all players. The goal is to keep communication open and ensure the table remains safe, comfortable, and fun throughout the campaign.
