About the adventure

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." -Arthur C. Clarke Echo Valley is a land of buried wonders, harsh landscapes, and dangerous, wild machines. The people who live there survive in fortified bastions, using the scraps of long-forgotten technology to forge tools, armor, and weapons. Above them, the gossamer threads of the network broadcast strange riddles, and the Motherboard remains silent and omnipresent. Technomancers, pilgrims, scrappers, and machinists eke out a life amidst a world they cannot understand, and brave few journey beyond the walls to hunt, forage, and explore, hoping to one day figure out what happened to the ones who came before, and how to tame the bestial machines they left behind. Motherboard is a post-post apocalyptic campaign frame for Daggerheart, set in a world where ancient technology is regarded as magic by bronze-age people who live in fortified cities to protect against animal-like terraforming machines that continue their work despite the deaths of their creators. All forms of magic are reframed as misunderstood technology, and fantastical races as augmented or genetically altered humans. Join if you're looking for a new angle on old fantasy tropes, reframed in a completely different light. Touchstones include Horizon Zero Dawn, Mortal Engines, and Caves of Qud. This campaign does not include any AI generation, either writing or art.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll be making level 1 characters during session 0. Feel free to have an idea about your character ahead of time, but please wait to make them with the group to avoid duplicate classes, and to flesh out connections. Motherboard does not allow for Clank characters, as all robotic life in the Valley are Remnants and bestial in nature.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Very little prep is necessary, I'll reach out with a discord link for you to join, and foundry runs without an account right in your browser.

What Jay brings to the table

I use character voices, I make character and environmental art for the campaign, and Foundry VTT allows for immersive battle maps, scenes, and player-facing landing menus.

Homebrew rules

Motherboard modifies Daggerheart's currency rules to include scrap, crafting, and a digital economy. It also removes the typical weapon options in favor of each character having their own customizable weapon that they craft as the campaign progresses.

How Jay creates a safe table

I use digital XNO cards, via discord, as well as a communal Lines and Veils document. I'll do regular check-ins with everyone at the end of sessions, and we'll be going over potential triggers in a session 0 before the campaign begins.
