About the adventure

By all accounts this is a standard Western Marches Sandbox campaign played strictly to the themes and rules of Shadowdark. Underneath the hood however, I will be experimenting with procedure and with preconceived expectations of a swords & sorcery setting. Things you can except in this game: - Pre-written adventures from OSE and Shadowdark, with some small changes - Hand-crafted adventures which enrich the world of used concepts - Traditional hex-crawl sandbox with some tweaks to improve variety and player experience - eventual domain-play and kingdom-building and mass-combat clashing which will effect the long-term story of the world - permanency in the world, even one session will see you claim a stake in how the world works and plays - objective play and rulings, players will be given tools and toys, but be expected to meet the challenges as they arrive - creative thinking is rewarded!

About me

I've been tabletop gaming for about 20 years now with no intention to stop I have a love for OSR and old-school design but with my own touch I enjoy making expansive sandboxes and emergent storytelling!

Character creation

Creating your character

you can come with a premade, randomly generated (check out shadowdarklings.net/create) or if this is your first time playing, I'm happy to help you make it before the game starts, or when time permits! or I can give you a randomly generated premade and we can wing it

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I will be using Discord, and Foundry, definitely have an account for both (you do not need to purchase a license for Foundry)

What Big Simple Tabletop brings to the table

I inject flavor where I can but without encroaching on the players agency. much of my effort is placed in procedure and world-building. I will provide illustrations for situations regarding player agency, such as maps for the world, towns, and the dungeon. I will not provide much ambience in the form of music, sound effects, graphics, or the VTT which will be used primarily as a means to convey combat details. I will NOT be AI-generating you a token for your character, but I will provide generic tokens to represent your character if you need one. Feel free to provide a token made however you want. focus will be balanced between roleplay, strategic combat, as well as downtime. regarding rulings I generally play by the book but will make decisions where need be if rules are slowing the game down. I will generally favor the player when it comes to discrepancies to keep ruling debates to a minimum.

Homebrew rules

Most of my homebrew rules are behind the curtain and pertain to events and encounters. I will be homebrewing domain-play. Everyone starts with a luck token, but you can't spend it on a natural 1. You can share your luck token. You earn more luck tokens from in-game mechanics or from clever play.

Safety

How Big Simple Tabletop creates a safe table

Though this is a game influenced by a legacy of war and violence, I still aim to provide a space for people to feel comfortable. My content warnings describe what I consider standard for a wargame but I invite people to let me know what lines not to cross and will respect that. Players can state their X, N, and O's before the game or during, either vocally or via DM in discord
