About the adventure

--------- Enter a Living Campaign with multiple parties adventuring every week. --------- The world is constantly evolving, but the story is about you, your character, and the inexorable mark you leave on the city. Your actions in your campaign will affect the world for everyone! Your party was recruited by a solo private detective who has decided it is time to mentor new blood. You will work cases, make enemies and allies, and uncover the city's many dark secrets. Each party works for a different detective at a different agency somewhere in the city! --------- Explore the mysteries of a city with deep history --------- Built atop the ruins of an underground city that collapsed beneath the weight of its own ambition, Engress found its new identity through salvage and scholars. Breakthroughs in the marriage of science and technology at Engress University revitalized the city. A new era of steam engines, factories, and harnessed lightning. But something went sour with the promise of progress. Industry, science, and magic went unchecked for far too long; A runaway train of exploitation, experimentation, and contamination. Morality and ethics are sidelined for progress and profit, and factories churn out weapons of war. The Great War ended eight years ago. Its scars are still visible on the countryside, and still evident in the distant eyes of beggars and mercenaries. Now is a time of reflection in the wake of atrocity, where many have come to loathe the city they call home, but few, if any, can do anything about it. Nowadays, crime and corruption line the smog-choked streets of Engress. A sprawling city of factories and slums where gangs rule the streets and corporate elites exploit the masses from atop gleaming glass towers. The city hums with activity day and night, a sound which reverberates even through the ancient caverns of the ruined city deep underground. Endless crime, however, creates endless opportunities for a small and growing private detective agency. This is where your story starts. --------- What my players tell me you'll love: --------- 🎭Gripping role-play with tough choices and deep consequences ⚙️Engrossing yourself in original lore with deep history, collaboratively written over a decade of actual play 🔎That "aha!" moment where you finally put the clues together, and everything clicks 🎩Webs of competing factions, where earning one group's favour earns the ire of thrice more 🦑Fanatic cults, secret societies, aberrant monstrosities, and eldritch horrors 🏭Escaped experiments, corporate espionage, and industrial sabotage I've written and refined this setting over years of play, and I'll whisk you away into a city of wonder where evil lurks within the city's very foundations. --------- 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈LGBT friendly, I'm a transfemme GM! Bigotry of any kind has no place at this table.

About me

Check out my dedicated RP discord if you want to chat with me or some of the players who I GM for: https://discord.gg/VMMGdgSg3M I'm a trans GM with a decade of GMing experience, including professionally for corporate clients and as the in-house GM of Strawberry Fields Interactive. Fantasy roleplay is my life: From high school theatre to university-level demonology courses, I'm always looking to pick up new skills that will level up my RP game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters should be made collaboratively starting during session 0. I'll be helping every player through character creation every step of the way. Please do not plan to make joke characters or characters whose purpose is to cause mischief or mayhem. Creation rules: • Level 1, 27 point-buy, default starting equipment • level 1 feats, but no variant humans • TCE expanded origin customization rules are allowed • Only official content from the core 2014 5th Edition D&D rulebooks • Content from other sources requires GM approval Additional third-party rules: Arcane Artillery: The Gun Nuts Guide for 5th edition • ONLY the primitive firearms list, none of the classes/feats/etc

The current party

The party is currently level 4 The agency is run by a private detective who recently took on a team. This detective is the product of the party's brainstorming during session 0: A high-functioning sociopath who enjoys watching people squirm and rarely stays focused on the same project for more than a day, Detective Amanda Homes is a genius... at avoiding doing any actual work. To that, she leaves the band of entertainingly dysfunctional misfits that work at her agency. The agency employs the following player characters: Mads is an info broker who believes he might be a vampire. But vampires don't exist. They are just an ancient myth, right? A favourite subject of the conspiratorial ramblings of madmen, right? Anthony is definitely not a spirit. He's a human. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Anthony is normal. Anthony is the receptionist and a sorcerer. Anthony DEFINITELY knows what a receptionist is. Anthony is normal, trust me. Aelek may ramble a lot but he's just got so much stuff in his head that some of it has to spill out sometimes. Like horrifying memories of military experiments during The Great War. Lets not focus on that for now tho, as this aarakocra artificer can fix just about anything and makes a wonderful repair technician. Sizzle is a talented chef and even more talented at getting herself into trouble and others out of it. She just kind of showed up in a crate one day, a clerical error when a letter requesting work was misinterpreted as a request for a worker. The barbarian dragonborn broke herself out of the crate and... got right to work. Vorin is a great doctor to have on hand. Ignore all the tattoos and scars and how he approaches patients like they are already dead. He's definitely licenced... as a mortician. But hey, he survived the front lines of The Great War as a combat medic. He'll get you stabilized, even if it isn't pretty.
