About the adventure

You are not just adventurers; you are VANGAURD Leo, a strike team of budding supernatural peacekeepers. You are the last line of defense, a specialized combat force deployed to investigate, hunt, and confront the dangerous demons and spirits that plague the world. Inspired by the kinetic action, stylish combat, and urban fantasy grit of shows, comics, and games like Demon Slayer, RWBY, KPop Demon Hunters, DanDaDan, Sailor Moon, and Final Fantasy XIV, this campaign uses DaggerHeart as its foundation for epically-paced, high-stakes encounters. The campaign unfolds where another VANGUARD team providing security for a high-society gala has mysteriously gone missing. Your team, Vanguard Leo, is sent to replace them and investigate the disappearance just a few days before the event is set to begin. As you push back the tide of darkness, you will uncover a sinister connection between these demonic events and the political turmoil of the nations. This is a story where every mission is a crucial piece of a larger puzzle. You will not just face monsters—you will face corruption, secrets, and a threat that is masterfully using the world's own conflicts against itself. Your abilities will push the limits of mortal prowess, allowing for flashy teamwork and dramatic, cinematic battles. The path to becoming "more than mortal" will be a central theme, as you unlock unique abilities and face the moral costs of the power you wield. This is a campaign for players who want to be the heroes of a high-fantasy world, blending tactical tabletop combat with a high-octane, narrative-driven experience.

About me

I'm a lifelong roleplaying enthusiast with 25 years of experience at the table. My journey into creating immersive worlds began early, captivated by the art and stories of games like Key to the Kingdom with my dad. In grade school, I was already designing simple board games and stories to share with classmates. The discovery of Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and eventually Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition in my preteens truly set my path. My Journey in Gaming & Creation: 🎲 Diverse TTRPG Experience: From Warhammer 40,000 and Battletech to Shadowrun and Vampire: The Masquerade, I've explored a wide spectrum of RPG and tabletop games. 🌳 LARP & Worldbuilding Roots: My teens saw me dive into LARPing, which fueled my passion for worldbuilding and writing for my own homebrew setting, 'Ae'oh'. ✍️ Published Creator: I've poured immense care into developing 'Ae'oh' through many revisions, eventually publishing gaming materials under the name GM Gene. 🤝 Creative Collaboration: My amazing fiancée, my "art sorceress," visually brings my worlds to life. While she focuses on the art, I dedicate myself to cartography, storytelling, and worldbuilding. 📚 Shared Publications: Together, we've published content for various games we love. 🚀 Future Endeavors: We're now working towards making our shared passion our full-time endeavor as artists, game developers, and storytellers. I absolutely love collaborating and sharing ideas, and I genuinely hope we'll get to share a table soon and create some unforgettable stories together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting Level: 1 We will go over other character details and campaign expectations during a dedicated Session Zero. If you are joining the campaign in progress, I will make time before your first session to create your character, making sure it fits your vision and the setting.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Discord and Forge accounts are the intended platforms for this campaign. https://discord.com/ https://forge-vtt.com/ Due to DaggerHeart being a new system, there is a possibility we may start in Roll20/Demiplane then transition over to Foundry once a stable community system is released. I also encourage that you have some generic backstory that can be applied to the game's setting during character creation.

What GM Gene brings to the table

I will provide a professional, fully-realized virtual tabletop experience using our own private Foundry VTT server, complete with custom maps, dynamic lighting, and visually appealing art. I am a highly improvisational GM who ensures that your characters' decisions will have immediate and lasting consequences in a world full of reactive NPCs. The game will be run on a private Discord server that includes channels for lore, session recaps, and downtime roleplaying.

Homebrew rules

Due to DaggerHeart being a newer system, we may implement homebrew rules at a later time.

Safety

How GM Gene creates a safe table

We will utilize several different safety methods to ensure an inclusive and safe environment. The campaign will start with a Session 0, which will include discussion of lines and veils. During play, we will utilize at least one break during the session. X, N, & O will be our immediately accessible safety tool at the table. After game, we will go over the stars and wishes of both yourself and your character, as well as apply aftercare, and decompress from any high-tension plot.
