About GM Gene
I'm a lifelong roleplaying enthusiast with 25 years of experience at the table. My journey into creating immersive worlds began early, captivated by the art and stories of games like Key to the Kingdom with my dad. In grade school, I was already designing simple board games and stories to share with classmates. The discovery of Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and eventually Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition in my preteens truly set my path. My Journey in Gaming & Creation: 🎲 Diverse TTRPG Experience: From Warhammer 40,000 and Battletech to Shadowrun and Vampire: The Masquerade, I've explored a wide spectrum of RPG and tabletop games. 🌳 LARP & Worldbuilding Roots: My teens saw me dive into LARPing, which fueled my passion for worldbuilding and writing for my own homebrew setting, 'Ae'oh'. ✍️ Published Creator: I've poured immense care into developing 'Ae'oh' through many revisions, eventually publishing gaming materials under the name GM Gene. 🤝 Creative Collaboration: My amazing fiancée, my "art sorceress," visually brings my worlds to life. While she focuses on the art, I dedicate myself to cartography, storytelling, and worldbuilding. 📚 Shared Publications: Together, we've published content for various games we love. 🚀 Future Endeavors: We're now working towards making our shared passion our full-time endeavor as artists, game developers, and storytellers. I absolutely love collaborating and sharing ideas, and I genuinely hope we'll get to share a table soon and create some unforgettable stories together!

Beyond TTRPGs, I'm a photographer and graphic designer. I collaborate on art projects with my fiancée, also an artist! When not creating, I'm gaming: FFXIV, Marvel Rivals, or Path of Exile with my guild.
How GM Gene runs games
I believe the best stories bloom when creativity meets open possibility. Think of me as a Gardener for our adventures. I love to set a rich, vibrant stage for us. You can count on me to bring intriguing settings, compelling hooks, and a cast of characters to life, providing a fantastic starting point for our shared narrative. But once the seeds are planted, the real magic begins with all of you. Your choices, your characters' actions, and your brilliant ideas are what truly shape our tale. We'll discover the plot together, allowing the story to naturally grow and evolve into something truly unique and unexpected. Finding that perfect balance—where my initial setup empowers your freedom to explore and shape the narrative—is where the most fun happens at our table!

I deal with rules issues by...
For rules questions, I'll aim for quick look-ups (<1 min). If it takes longer, I'll make a temporary ruling for the session. Ultimately, good roleplay and the Rule of Cool always take precedence over Rules As Written at my table. Let's make epic moments!
Rules are...
Rules are a mechanic to help us tell a good story, but they're ultimately just a suggestion. I'll always announce the few times I'm deviating from a system's rules. They're a guide, but honesty is the keystone at my table.
When it comes to voices
I absolutely love diving into character voices! It's one of the most fun ways to bring the world and its inhabitants to life at the table, and honestly, something I truly miss from my LARPing days. Get ready for some unique personalities!
GM Gene's ideal table
My table is a place for fun, collaborative storytelling and a truly inviting, safe space for everyone to explore their characters freely. We focus on big moments and shared narratives, always aiming for an awesome time where the story and player creativity shine!

I am for a vibe that's...
At my table, the vibe is all about being chill, fun, and laid-back. I genuinely believe that a truly comfortable and safe environment is the foundation for incredible storytelling. It's only when everyone feels completely at ease that you can truly push the boundaries of your characters and explore.
I think min/maxing...
Min/maxing is welcome! Just craft a compelling background explaining why your character is built that way. This deepens their story, making powerful choices feel uniquely yours and unforgettable at my table.
