About the adventure
In the world of Aeternitas, on a continent named Solus, there are five distinct kingdoms. In the center, there are the elves of Etheria Lune and their monarch who can control the sun and moon cycle. To the north are the swashbuckling dwarves and the cold-steel waves of Ikor, bordered by the Azul Ocean. To the east, the historical war-obsessed humans and their famous Redwood forests. Far to the west are the tribes of Ekus and their horse lords, spread far and wide on a sea of grass. Finally, to the south are the humble halflings and gnomes of Jun'aepia, famed for their wide open pastures and ale-making. The authority over all these kingdoms, however, is the council known as "The Proelio." The Proelio is made up of 9 individual mortals chosen by the gods of the 9 main divine domains. Through no means evident to mortals, these 9 keep the balance of all things in check on Aeternitas. Since any living memory could recall, the Proelio has been a secretive, secluded council that never makes public appearances. The only mortals privileged enough to speak to The Proelio are any monarch of the Five Kingdoms on their coronation day. Instead, each Proelio has a messenger or a representative called a "Liaison," who acts as a go between for the Proelio and the rest of the mortals. This is a concept known as the "Rule of 9." 9 Gods, 9 Proelio members chosen by the gods, 9 Liaisons as the Proelio's messengers. The Liaisons, throughout history, are typically reclusive but accessible if you did all things necessary to gain an audience. However one things always remained constant, no typical mortal could ever plainly speak with a member of the Proelio. You and your party begin your adventure thousands of years ahead of the last sighting of a Liaison while The Proelio have fallen into absolute silence. Over the centuries, common folk have started to refer to the gods and their Proelio as "The Absentees" and would sooner pray to an obscure god for a bountiful harvest than any of the major 9. The issue is, as of late, there are dark tidings; wars between neighboring kingdoms brewing, rebellious dukes and forbidden affairs amongst sworn enemies. Additionally, tales of ancient monsters making reappearances across Solus permeate even the smallest taverns. Those monsters and creatures already known to mortals are increasing in size, aggressiveness and brutality, wreaking havoc across a recently peaceful land, relatively. Can you rise to the occasion, seize celestial power and restore balance?

About me
Hey there! My name is Constantine but you can just call me Cosa. My background starts way back when I was a wee lad and played a few sessions of 3.5 with my sister. That flamed out as she got older and it was shelved for some time after that but I would occasionally take the books out, brush the dust off and peer into a world I so desperately wanted to be a part of. Fast forward, I'm moving out to Colorado from the east coast and I suggest D&D 5e as a way to keep in touch with my friends and some of my siblings. We took off running and that campaign has been running for four years and counting now. I diversified, running an in-person campaign for my friends and co-workers. I ran both at the same time, multi-tasking content creation with the moderation of 10 players and their backstories. I wanted more, to familiarize myself more with the content so I ran Curse of Strahd for the in-person table. While a module went well, my heart is in homebrew, truly. I yearn to provide a world for my players where they can feel alive in an vibrant world. I strive to provide the lore and reading material required while offering a rich and deep background of the world as a larger whole, there for you to interact with or not! My players are the story, with everything else built around them! I'll see you at the table!

Creating your character
Session 0 is FREE! We will begin at level 1. The journey from level 1-3 will be quick compared to the rest of the leveling. Character creation will mainly begin privately. You can work on a character before Session 0 and then we will finalize our party together during Session 0. I am actually okay with any of the three standard methods of stat procurement: rolled, point buy or standard array. (Rolled stats must be done in person at Session 0. If you come to me with pre-rolled numbers I will politely ask you to reroll them). Do I require backstory? The only requirements for a backstory are the answers to these questions. Why are you in the Central Kingdom, Etheria Lune? Why have you come here? Where are you originally from? XP gain is milestone HP gain is fixed as a standard but if you truly feel a type of way about rolling health, that is okay as well. I require everyone to use D&D Beyond as the character sheet application. We also will be using D&D Beyond for maps and tokens. Do not fret about book ownership; I own all 2014 resource manuals and will allow for an extremely diverse character creation process. There will be a google doc and references in the discord channel to clarify character sheet settings etc. Banned races: Aasimar Warforged Aarakocra Kenku Tabaxi All spelljammer races (Sorry) Class bans: Artificer Spell bans: none

What cosa brings to the table
I will say here and now that my typical disposition as a DM does not include voices for every character. I do, however, love voicing important characters, doing monster sound effects and ambient sound effects like doors creaking etc. Ambient music is an absolute must and I will be doing everything I can to provide mood appropriate music. Expect vivid descriptions of a lot of things ranging from character description to the way a battle axe splits a skull open. This campaign is not for the squeamish, I will be describing the violent and ugly as much as the radiant and beautiful. Expect dynamic combat and use this to your advantage. If you want to jump off something, flip over, do something cool or involving the environment, I am not the DM who will force you to waste your action on something cool, you can just roll the check for free. The entire idea is to feel powerful and to look and feel cool while doing it. I always levitate towards Rule of Cool. Remember the monsters, although I have them on a leash to make it fair, can also take advantage of Rule of Cool. However, disclaimer, if I do not have a good idea on how to go about something, I may fall back onto Rules as Written in that moment and then come up with a better or more "fair" ruling after session so we do not hold up the pacing. Keep in mind, this is moot if it is a big, consequential moment. We will come up with a ruling on the spot together if the moment in question has direct plot and/or life or death consequences in the balance. Expect combat to last 1-2 rounds for a short encounter, 2-4 rounds for a medium length and 5+ for any other encounters. There is guaranteed combat every other session but this does not mean the sessions in between will not have combat. This simply is a means to be sure we don't go two sessions without combat.
Homebrew rules
Healing potions are a bonus action but any other potion costs a full action. Critical damage occurs on melee natural 20s and enemy natural 1s on saving throws. Crushing Critical: Critical damage is also calculated differently than Rules as Written. When rolling critical damage, you take the maximum damage of the spell or weapon and then add it to rolled damage. A melee example: You critically hit with a longsword that does 1d6+3 damage. You first would calculate max possible damage, in this case that would be 9 (1d6+3.) Then you roll the actual damage and add the modifier again. So if you roll a 3 on the die, add the modifier you end up with 6+9 damage for a total of 15. A spell example: You hurl a fireball at an enemy and they critically fail their saving throw. The fireball does base 8d8 damage. So just as with the melee critical, you first calculate maximum damage, in this case, 64. Then you roll 8d8 and add it to 64 for a total damage number. This system works BOTH ways, meaning the enemies' critical hits just as hard as yours. We use the 5e 2025 inspiration system; you start each session with an empty inspiration slot. When you roll a natural 1, you can fill the inspiration slot. On any subsequent roll, you can spend the inspiration point to re-roll. This uses up the inspiration and the slot goes back to being empty. For spellcasters: When you run out of slots, you may cast a spell in exchange for equal levels of exhaustion. So if you want to cast a level 1 spell with no spell slots, you take 1 level of exhaustion. The max exhaustion is 6 and if you collectively hit that from overspending, you’re unconscious. If you cast a level 7 spell, you’re unconscious with 1 failed save. If you cast a level 8 spell, you’re dead and can be brought back with revivify. If you cast a level 9 spell, you are dead but get an automatic max damage on the spell. You cannot be brought back by any healing magic or spells if you die through this method.

How cosa creates a safe table
During Session 0, we will have a group Lines and Veils discussion. If you do not feel comfortable saying any lines or veils publicly, you can tell me privately and I will put it on the list of Lines or Veils anonymously. Additionally, discord text chat will be utilized for X, N and O cards. Simply type: X- for an immediate stop to the current content N- for a slowing or toning down of the current content O- for okay even though it may typically make you uncomfortable. There will also be a no judgement text channel where we can debrief and share our concerns as a group as well as a personal line of communication between myself and each individual player. There will be no (0) mention or themes of sexual violence, mentions of rapes, assaults or any type of sexual violence whatsoever. Violation of this rule leads to an immediate removal from the table, no warnings. SESSION 0 is FREE!
