About the adventure
In the wake of great calamity, the dawn of A New Age is upon the world. Jord Minnkandi is a world brimming with untapped magic, filled with untamed wilds, and populated by the displaced peoples of a hundred different planes. Six great celestial rings orbit and interlock in the skies above, and beyond them a seventh great ring of roots, upon which the Great Tree Ysmre sits, distant yet tangible evidence of lands beyond this one. ~50 years (its hard to tell) after the collapse of the planes, your developing kingdom has been beset by conflicts both internal and external, but a worrying new phenomenon has proven to be the most dangerous one yet. The northlands are ablaze with unending fires. The Crown, either unable or unwilling, has not addressed the disaster, so it falls to a group of eager adventurers seeking to make a name for themselves in the world. All are welcome to this campaign set in the living, breathing world. I have extensive experience running games for both children and adults. I've done everything from birthday parties to corporate team-building, and regularly run "intro-to-D&D" games at local cafes and community settings. For newer players, classic adventures and tales of daring-do are the usual fare, but for more advanced players you will start to see the intricacies of overlapping and intertwined stories! **As a note, this campaign has begun in earnest, and there are a total of six players. For those looking for smaller games, feel free to inquire about my upcoming games!

About me
Hi, I'm Chase! I'm a Sacramento local GM, and have been my whole life! I basically learned to read reading the 1st edition D&D material, so I've been immersed since the beginning. I run Kids' and Adults' games locally at various locations across Sacramento and Roseville (more locations TBA, and I'm open for suggestions for in-person games) and privately for all ages and groups! I've done everything from kids' birthday parties to corporate team-building Making sure people have a fun time in the game is imperative to me, which also means being safe. I have a conversation with every player, even before character creation, to discuss any boundaries and limits, and I use Green/Yellow/Red cards/callouts while in-game to allow players to discreetly let me know if something approaches those boundaries. At the same time, no good story is totally without conflict, so I highly encourage players to roleplay their characters in tough situations. Heroic deeds and vile villains await, along with shades of gray in between. I am most familiar with D&D 5th edition, and actively run a twice-weekly in-person drop-in "West Marches" style D&D 5e Campaign and an online LANCER campaign. I am also available to run games for other systems, including: D&D 3.5 and 4e, Pathfinder 1st and 2nd edition, Shadowrun, RIFTS, and many more.

Creating your character
**The campaign has begun!** The adventurers are now level 7, having uncovered more questions about the plague than they've solved... ======================================== You begin as established adventurers in the "Fallen Star Confederacy", a proud nation formed from survivors of the old world and their descendants. You will start at 5th level as already semi-established adventurers, and starting gear will be determined by your background and story during your Session Zero. Players are welcome to create characters on their own using D&D 5e'24 options, if they are familiar. I am open to some third-party content, pending approval of its balance. In this case, you will use the Point Buy system for stats. For beginners or those less familiar with the creation of characters, I am available to help create your character during your "Session Zero" and integrate their story into the existing world! (For Session Zero across all my campaigns, see the "A New Age" free listing!) I use Foundry Virtual Tabletop to create and update character sheets, and Foundry will be the method by which games are played. (see the Preparation section for more details) If you have a DnDBeyond account, you can create a character there and import it into Foundry.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
All players will need the following accounts: Discord is our main chat program, used for both in-game communication and any out-of-game communication to the Dungeon Master. It's friendly and free, and has kid-friendly options assignable by a parent. I have a personal discord server named "Definitely Not D&D" that I use to coordinate games and player groups, the invite for which will be included once you sign up for the game. Foundry Virtual Tabletop is my platform of choice for actually running the game. You can create a free account here: https://foundryvtt.com/ and then join my private Foundry server once your account is made. Further instructions for joining the server will be found once you sign up for a game. Other than that, for online games, all you need is a stable internet connection, a microphone, and (totally optionally) a camera. I use my webcam so hybrid and online players can experience the game in more depth but players are not required to. For in-person games, all you will need is a set of dice, a character sheet, and a sense of adventure! Whatever your character sheet of choice, you must be able to read your own stats and abilities. This can be good old fashioned paper sheets, a laptop or tablet with internet access and access to FoundryVTT (phones don't get along with Foundry very well), or some other way of accessing your sheet.
What A Fistful Of D20s brings to the table
I am a very experienced GM, and I dive headfirst into my game world when its time to play. I do character voices to the best of my ability, I provide maps and environmental art, and space-permitting I usually like to employ ambient music or combat music. As to the gameplay, it is entirely story-driven. You will be pitted against dangerous foes and situations, but how you deal with them is up to you and your characters and party. When combat breaks loose I do like to challenge players within the context of the story, but if the story doesn't demand gritty tactical combat then we don't have to use it. As to the specifics of rules, no Tabletop game operates totally without written rules. To me however, they are just mechanical guidelines to get the story rolling. If you have a cool idea for a problem that isn't explicitly written, I'd love to hear it. Coming up with creative solutions and flexing those imaginative muscles is one of my favorite parts of the game.
Homebrew rules
I use a slew of the common homebrew rules, including but not limited to: Potions as a bonus action Skill checks can be free (especially knowledge checks) Wounds system for repeated death saves (light usage, no crippling 2nd ed. rules) Madness (if it comes up) and the most important one is the RULE OF COOL! If you think your character can do something, describe to me how they would do it and I will assign the appropriate checks to do so!

Safety
How A Fistful Of D20s creates a safe table
First, I use an RPG Consent checklist during Session Zero with each player to determine their general sense of boundaries and any specific barriers. Second, players are completely welcome to talk to me privately about any issues they have, and I will change my approach if something doesn't work. Before, during, or after the game are all good times to talk about it. Third, I encourage the use of the simple Red-Yellow-Green party callout if anything is getting close to uncomfortable. Periodically, especially during tense moments or during the discussion of uncomfortable subjects, I ask the table for a mood-check, and while nobody is required to answer any specific way, they have the opportunity.
