About the adventure

Proposed start date is August 10th! The Drylands were a place that put the old stories aside. While superstitious miners have long said that the crystals growing wild in this desert are made from the very life-essence of Forgotten Gods, the folk around here had real work to do, and actual deities were left for campfire stories. That is, until a massive colossus answered the call of something ancient and apocalyptic, rising from the earth and devastating the lands. The bold prospectors, tired laborers, and born-again worshippers in the dusty town of Wyllin’s Gulch were thrown from their routine of industry and exploitation, forced to raise scattered armies and watch them die to the behemoth’s strength. And this is only the first of many titanic beasts poised to terrorize the land. In a Colossus of the Drylands campaign, you’ll play a heroic posse of mavericks who must save their home from a legion of colossi and a primordial god seeking vengeance. We will flesh out the world of The Drylands and incorporate your character's backstories into the game. If you are looking for a rich narrative story punctuated by cinematic combat scenes where you fight gigantic monsters, this Red Dead meets Shadow of the Colossus setting is the one for you. Session 0 and Session 1 will be free! :)

About me

Darkness. The darkness of the inside of your eyelids weighs heavy on your thoughts as you open your eyes to discover you are trapped in a web. A world wide web. You feel the tug of the sticky substance as you try to wrangle an arm or leg free. To find some sort of purchase. You smell the sickly sweet decay of adventurers who had come before you in search of the fabled "Perfect GM." And then you feel it. The skittering of the beast that made this web. It descends with eight limbs and zero prep time. Its many eyes blink behind fogged-up glasses and a half-hearted smile that says, "Sorry, I forgot we were playing tonight." Its mandibles chatter endlessly, spewing lukewarm homebrew, recycled campaign plots, and inconsistent rules calls. You scream. Not from fear. But from disappointment. And then—he arrives. A flash of light! A d20 hits the ground and crits with divine comedic timing. The beast recoils, tangled in pun damage and well-structured narrative arcs. A silhouette steps through the smoke, cloak billowing like a DM’s screen in a dramatic gust of narrative wind. “Looking for the perfect Game Master?” He smirks. “You've just rolled initiative on the best decision of your campaign.” With a flick of the wrist, calendars sync, Discord sings, and your backstory gets a spotlight moment. Rules are explained with the precision of a rogue’s sneak attack, and NPCs speak in a symphony of accents. The story? So immersive, your snacks level up mid-session. Combat? Tense, tactical, and full of pun-chlines. Roleplay? Deeper than a gelatinous cube’s digestive tract. You’re not just playing a game anymore. You’re living a legend. So escape the web. Step into a world where fun is meta-magically guaranteed. Roll with me. I bring the schedule, the structure, and the story—so you can just bring the dice. Now taking bookings—no saving throw required.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created during session 0. You are welcome to bring ideas to Session 0. But please try to refrain from building your character before then. This will ensure our characters are cohesive to the world and also fit in to our safety guidelines.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Text and voice chat will be handled via discord. Dice rolls and maps will be hosted on Owlbear Rodeo. Character sheets will be hosted on Demiplane. If you need access to the rules for the game I can share them with you on Demiplane.

What Dorkseid brings to the table

As a GM I have many premium maps and Demiplane for sharing of game materials. I am also in the process of building a sound board of hundreds of immersive sound effects and provide music and ambient sounds as well. My games tend to be very roleplay focused with challenging combat and puzzles sprinkled in. I am an aspiring voice actor so I also provide fun voices for the NPCs! (Note: I do not expect players to be voice actors. Please do not feel pressured to do a character voice if you are not comfortable. We are all here to have fun and that is the main goal.) I have spent quite a bit of time setting up reference sheets and trackers in Owlbear Rodeo to make the game streamlined.

Homebrew rules

I've found that combat can feel a little clunky using the Spotlight method. So I've developed the following rule for Initiative. Popcorn Initiative. At the beginning of combat I will choose a player to make the first move. Once they complete their turn, as long as they did not roll with fear, they will choose the next player, and so on. The GM takes control of the spotlight by spending a Fear or gaining control after a player rolls with Fear or fails a roll.

Safety

How Dorkseid creates a safe table

We will be using an RPG consent checklist as well as having a session 0 where we can make sure everyone is one the same page. Additionally I understand that everyone is human and you may find something bothers you that we didn't discuss in session 0. In this case we would use the X-card. We also will do post session debriefs.
