About the adventure
Scoundrels. Thieves. Vigilantes. When night falls, you're on the wrong side of the law. In Blades in the Dark, players run a crew of criminals in a haunted city. You'll steal from the rich and give to yourselves. You'll fend off rival gangs and corrupt cops. You'll gather resources, claim turf, and make a name for your gang, for better or for worse. If you're lucky, you might even put away enough of a stash to retire someday. Blades in the Dark is a narrative-driven, collaborative game that rewards creativity and teamwork. The group will decide their goals - are they in this for personal enrichment? For the reputation? For the thrills? Or maybe they want to defend regular folks and have decided to fight crime with crime? Once you've decided, the system takes players straight to the action, facilitating an exciting, cinematic style of play.

About me
Hello! I'm Neal, and I've been playing and running RPGs since high school. I love roleplaying and entertaining, and I've pursued a career in adjacent fields such as theatre and education, but with the rise of online gaming I've decided to take my hobby to the next level. I was born and raised in New York, where I worked in the theatre industry throughout my 20's until I decided it was time for a more radical change in scenery. I moved to the country of Georgia and became a teacher, drawing on my theatre experience to teach subjects such as Design and Drama. After more than a decade teaching, the pandemic showed me that remote work was definitely my jam. I've been running games online for about four years now and I love the experience. I've set up a discord server and a cloud-hosted Foundry VTT installation, which I've tailored to my DMing style using a variety of add-on modules. My games are designed to be approachable and beginner-friendly and to foster meaningful roleplaying experiences in which player characters have an important place in the setting and players have the opportunity to add to the world with creative input.

Creating your character
Character creation is very fast and will happen during the first session. We will create the characters in game, using the Roll20 character sheets for Blades in the Dark.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A microphone is needed and a webcam is recommended for player engagement. Players don't need to read the rules ahead of time, although some players may feel more comfortable preparing in advance with knowledge of the rules. No software or other resources are needed.
What Neal Z brings to the table
I will bring the Blades in the Dark asset pack for Roll20, which contains all we need to play.

Safety
How Neal Z creates a safe table
We will have a break about halfway through the game. Gameplay comes in three modes: Free Play, Score, and Downtime. Free Play involves a lot of roleplaying and character building. Score is the most system-heavy - it's when players arrive at the scene of the action, face obstacles, overcome challenges, and deal with consequences. Downtime is when characters rest and recover or engage in long-term projects.
