About the adventure

--> Game Description While weary trainers and pokemon wander in for a rest at the edge of the woods, something isn't quite right within the walls of the Starlight Inn. The floors seem to sing from time to time, the teacups choose their own cabinets, doors to darkness appear where they've never been, and Grimmsnarl can never remember where he's left his teddy. In this pokemon Play-by-Post campaign, you’ll explore a surreal and cozy manor on the border of the mysterious Glimwood Tangle. Whether you've agreed to remain a consistent caretaker along with your friend, or simply to help them run the inn just this once, something antique and ancient always seems to awaken while you stay. This is a narrative-first game focused on mystery, introspection, exploration, and connection with pokemon, guests, and your frazzled friend who promised to keep the inn alive before their grandfather's passing, as well as seemingly whatever magical whimsy lies beneath the manor’s quiet charm. Light mechanics will be taught as needed. No prior PTA3 experience required! --> Play Format & Schedule - This is a Play-by-Post game hosted on Discord, meaning the game occurs through text posts and responses across the week. - Major narrative scenes, updates, and adventure hooks will be sent during the time that this game is scheduled on StartPlaying.Games. - Games will still be actively monitored throughout the week with active GM engagement every day from Sunday through Thursday. - Players are requested to post something (even if short) at least 3 times per week, or to notify the group if engagement will be lower, to keep the story flowing and to remain respectful of other player engagement. --> Optional Office Hours - I will host weekly engagement hours on Discord on Wednesdays and Thursdays! During these windows, you’re welcome to drop in our voice channel to: - Chat about your character or backstory, - Plan side quests or scenes, - Ask questions about PTA3 rules, and/or... - Explore potential character relationships or arcs. --> Billing & Player Expectations - This game uses weekly billing through StartPlaying. - If a player doesn’t pay for a given week, they may be temporarily paused and set aside until they rejoin, but unless this is a pattern, they won't be removed from seeing engagement channels (just interacting). - If you plan to step away for any reason, feel free to let me know. I'm open to finding solutions if you feel the above doesn't work well for you. --> Final Notes If you enjoy character-driven roleplay, soft horror, silly and whimsical mystery, and Pokémon stories with a touch of the surreal, you will find a welcome place here at the Starlight Inn. New players are always welcome. Bring a warm drink, a curious heart, and maybe a flashlight... and please mind the wallpaper... it has started moving again.

About me

Hi all! I’m Emma, the Game Master behind Cozy Critical, a space where I hope to bring collaboration, cozy fun, and epic adventure together for people's enjoyment. Tabletop games provide a restful outlet that helps us disconnect from the real world for a little while, and I hope that my games can provide that for you! With over 5 years as a GM, 7 years playing TTRPGs, 6 years as a middle school science teacher, and 3 years in higher education I bring rich game mechanics together with an environment where players can feel comfortable learning new systems and trying new things. My goal is to create welcoming games that blend character development, emotional fantasy adventure arcs, and hopefully the right amount of chaos and silliness. Between a professional virtual tabletop setup and my past experience leading fantasy games, streaming TTRPGs, podcasting, and performing theater, I offer a strong foundation for us to build something special at the table. Whether you are new to TTRPGs or have played longer than I have, I hope you'll join me for some collaborative fun. Thanks so much, and I look forward to telling unforgettable stories together 💫

I played in an Eberron D&D one-shot that Emma ran, of her own design. It was clear that she had put effort into knowing Eberron's themes and using the virtual tabletop software to build a great online experience. Playing with her was a welcoming, fun experience that I'd be glad to do again!

NerdFlux is an awesome GM to play under. We ended up doing the Fistful of Flowers FreeRPGDay game (from this past year I believe), may have been a separate one-shot thing. Either way! It was awesome. The players meshed well and really killed the RP. NerdFlux did wonderful voices for her NPCs and I really enjoyed myself! I will be back in the future for more games and hope someday to see a longer run AP! If you are new to Pathfinder and want a fair shake, then you couldn't ask for a better GM to learn with.

I love how well the story telling flows and chances for rp and creativity.

I really appreciated the way Foundry was set up for immersive combats. I also liked that a good pace was kept considering the limited time available. Rules questions were handled quickly without everything breaking down.

Nerdflux is a great Game Master and ran the game very well. She helped me and my wife get our character's set up before the game and answered all of our questions. Once the game started she made sure that every player got a chance to shine both in Role play and combat. The music, Images and Maps were stunning and really helped bring the right tone to the game. Even when my internet went down in the middle of the game she kept things running smoothly. If your New or a veteran Nerdflux is going to provide a great gaming experience!

Character creation
Creating your character

Once you sign up, I will schedule time with you to go over rules basics and teach how to build a character! It's also okay if your character is developed over time through narrative gameplay. Given the flexible nature of a Play-by-Post campaign, we don't need to make all of your character decisions right away.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Once you sign up for the game, I will share a Discord server invitation link with you :) Anything you need to prepare will be posted to our Discord server!

What Jamie Emma brings to the table

I will provide narrative storytelling at specific times during the week, intermittent gameplay, posts, and replies throughout my work week, set office hours to engage with players over voice chat, dice-rolling tools within Discord, and the overall structure to build an exciting and cozy pokemon adventure.

Homebrew rules

While we will use Pokemon Tabletop Adventures 3 as our primary rule-set, our gameplay will be heavily driven by the narrative. Rather than a grid, for example, we might use theater of the mind to imagine a pokemon combat encounter. Rather than rolling dice for an easier skill attempt, for example, we might "handwave" your success. PTA3 will still act as our foundation, though, and we will reference the rule-set to tell our story.

Safety
How Jamie Emma creates a safe table

We will try to schedule an individual "Player Onboarding" session when you sign up, if possible, and we can discuss this at that time. I also offer a Lines & Veils form. You are also welcome to message me X, N, and O's at any point if a personal boundary is crossed or approached.
