Among the Darkness | Beginner Friendly Campaign
Criminals rise in Doskvol’s Underworld, chasing silver and infamy—while something ancient and hungry stirs among the city’s shadow filled streets.
About the adventure
In the shadow-choked streets of Doskvol, silver speaks louder than morals, and the only law is the knife in the dark. The players are desperate scoundrels clawing their way to infamy—smuggling illicit goods, breaking into vaults, and spilling blood for coin and turf. But as their reputations grow, so too do the whispers in the alleys and the flickers in the fog—strange symbols carved into cellar walls, malformed things glimpsed in the sewers, and cults murmuring prayers to gods that should not be. There’s power to be found in the darkness… but the deeper they dig, the less human they may return. - In this bleak and unforgiving sandbox campaign setting, players step into the shoes of criminals, trying to make a living in the criminal underworld. The game will focus mostly on the criminal underworld while also tending with the Lovecraftian horrors that have been unleashed since the Cataclysm. There will be a lot of things borrowed from Call of Cthulhu but still merging it into the occult-steeped history of Doskvol. As I run multiple sessions, the multiple games are all interconnected like a West Marches game. So the events of one score might have the ripples of that event be felt by other game nights and vice versa. I'm planning on giving plenty of mission ideas to allow players plenty of options to choose from, but allow characters the autonomy to work towards their own goals.

About me
I've been GM'ing for 3 decades now, so I think it's safe to say I have a love for telling good stories. I also have a gift for improvisation when it comes to running a game, so when players throw me a curve ball or drive the train off the tracks, my thought is "Well... Let's see where this goes!" I'm always one for giving the players as much autonomy as possible (so long as it doesn't interfere with another players enjoyment.) I usually emphasise "role" playing over "roll" playing, but never shy away from some combat, I tend to go 60/40 in favor of role playing over combat. I also love using music and ambient sound to enhance the setting's mood (but never enough to overpower the conversation to the point where players have to shout "I can't hear what the NPC said!") I'm horrible at filling these things out, so if you have more questions, please feel free to ask! :)

Knows the Rules
I enjoy Nomad's creative approach to the Monster of the Week system, blending it with modern day, Call of Cthulhu and Delta Green inspired settings to weave a captivating story. He expertly delivers a survival horror experience, with a strong focus on intense investigation, roleplay, gritty action, and thrilling combat. Nomad’s a skilled storyteller who genuinely cares about providing an engaging experience. He works well with both newcomers and experienced players, offering patient guidance that helped me quickly learn the game. I highly recommend him for players seeking story-driven campaigns.
Been playing with him for a while now and each game I play, I am having a blast! He truly makes the games he GMs extremely immersive; most of the time, I think I’m playing a video game with some of the things he has added and done to make it more immersive! If you’re looking for any games that are incredibly fun, and storytelling heavy; He is the GM for you!
Nomad has consistently made the sessions a fun experience for everyone involved. He has been punctual, with the games starting on time, and he has always been prepared. If there is ever a software issue he is quick to fix it, I have never experienced the same issue with software more than once, as it is always solved by the next session. The scenarios I have participated in have been interesting and exciting, creating custom maps to explore can be difficult in a VTT, but he always has one ready for the next session regardless of what the party is deciding to do.
Character creation
Creating your character
As for when Character Creation happens, I can either meet before game to help you design one, or if you join with really short notice, I can have a pre-made set for you to jump right in and play for your first session, and later on you can make your character if you like what you experienced! There will be some house rules included on the Discord that will allow for even greater flexibility when designing your character, as well as new talents and items.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Just have a microphone that works loud and clear, and if you have a noisy background, please use Push to Talk just for the sake of others being able to communicate clearly... Almost everything else is referenced in the Foundry Compendiums.
What Nomad brings to the table
Besides the Discord and Foundry server we'll be playing on... - Plenty of NPC voices - A large library of music and sound effects (but not too overbearing to disrupt conversation or the flow of RP) - And a chill and social atmosphere :)
Homebrew rules
There will be a few (which are listed on the Discord) but they all aim towards making the game a little less punishing and a lot more fluid. There will also be quite a bit being borrowed from Call of Cthulhu, but it wont hinder your experience if your unfamiliar with that game or setting.

Safety
How Nomad creates a safe table
I have an open door policy where if anything is bothering you about the game, feel free to come talk to me in private or shoot me a message and we can work things out. I tend to be very chill and flexible if I can accommodate my players with anything they need to make their gaming experience enjoyable as well as a welcomed addition to the game.
