About the adventure
This game is for those who wish to take their first steps into the world of D&D. The campaign is a classic fantasy setting, and will take your characters from their humble beginnings, as they give up their old life, to legendary status, as they as they assume their new lives as heroes of the day. The adventure will introduce you to the Sword Coast, a well-know part of the classic Forgotten Realms setting. A friend asks for your help, and you and your party need to decide how to respond - are you up to the challenge? The game will be run in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. As it is designed for beginners, we will take as much time as needed to help you get a good grip on both the rules (2024 edition) and how to approach the game. You can ask whatever you want - there are no stupid questions! Whilst I will focus on fun as opposed to exactitude with the rules, you will still learn the most important parts of the game as we go on this journey. I look forward to being your guide on this adventure.

About me
Hello, adventurers. I'm Darren and I’ve been DMing D&D 5e for around 7 years. I started playing AD&D many years ago. After an extended break following university, I returned to D&D in 2017 as a player, and then began to DM in February 2018 for a group of friends. Since that point, I’ve overseen more than 150 sessions and counting. I'm particularly happy to facilitate sessions for beginners and inexperienced players. My overall aim is to make each and every session enjoyable for my players. Thanks for reading and I look forward to guiding you through some exciting, dangerous, and, hopefully, rewarding adventures!

Creating your character
We will handle character creation during Session 0, though players can prep a little beforehand (see Preparation). We shall be starting at Level 1. We'll stick to the basic books for now.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I like to use D&D Beyond for managing characters and combat, so setting up an account on there would be a helpful step prior to Session 0. However, I can also use Roll20 if that would be preferable for the group. I will set up a Discord later on to handle discussion around the campaign, so again, having an account would be good. The video/audio meeting will be via Zoom, so just ensure that you can join this platform.
What DM Darren brings to the table
I shall provide an environment in which you will learn how to understand the fundamentals of the game. However, whilst it is important that you begin to learn the rules, the game is also about having fun, and so out-of-the-box thinking is welcomed and will not be shut down. In terms of the game experience, I like to use character voices for my NPCs, and some background music, but things won't be too intense. I want to aim for a relaxed experience for new players.
Homebrew rules
As this is a game for beginners, I won't be using any notable homebrew rules.

How DM Darren creates a safe table
We shall go over any red lines for players at either the Session 0 or by private message if you don't wish to reveal them. You can ask for a break at any time, either within the session or between a session as required. Your happiness is the most important thing.
