Eberron: The Crownless Sea [New Player/LGBTQ+ Friendly]
Only 2 years after the Last War had ended, and the nations of Khorvaire had made tenuous peace, Prince Ryger ir'Wynarn is mysteriously assassinated.
About the adventure
This campaign is for high fantasy lovers and fans of games with political stakes. The adventure is primarily an exploration-focused one set in the Lhazaar Principalities. I see this region as a rich environment for narrative exploration of freedom, liberation, and classism as themes. The Principalities only recently gained sovereignty on the world stage, but there are countless internal splinter groups. Anyone can become *someone* here. As it's described in the books, a beggar could be a prince the next day with the right skill, luck, or circumstance. The former High Prince didn't really hold too much sway over the other princes, but he was a suitable representative during the Treaty of Thronehold to allow them to gain international independence. With his assassination, Ryger's council has appointed his most trusted advisor and treasurer, Earnest ir'Tumman, as High Prince Regent of the Seadragons, the fleet formerly under Ryger's banner. There are many facets of this region at play, particularly the conflicts over territory, which are now being contested by fleets such as the Diresharks and Gray Tide. The dragonmarked houses of Eberron have their parts to play as well. Fingers are being pointed, villages intimidated, and authority questioned. For some reason, those of you who decide to embark on this adventure will find yourselves hired by the High Prince Regent on a secret mission to travel on his flagship, the Whirltimber, in search of a new prince to take over the Seadragons' dominion, Prince Lorrister of the Heavenly Fleet, an aasimar who has proved himself both an expert tactician and an elusive rogue. This will be done under the guise of maintaining political sovereignty by reaffirming relationships with Seadragon territories. Perhaps you were a member of the Seadragons before Ryger's death, someone looking to make a name for themselves, or maybe you were swept into it all due to forces outside your control. Regardless, your mission is clear: preserve the integrity of the Seadragons and find Lorrister. Throughout this campaign, you will see slow-burning themes of power, fear, overcoming adversity, and finding purpose. This will be done through the exploration of multiple islands, their cultures (especially conflicts with other cultures or factions), and possibly planes of existence. Some factions at play here will be the Seadragons, of course, the once most powerful fleet now sent into disarray, the Diresharks, the runner-ups with ties to Karrnath and House Lyrander that are trying to gain territory with this new opportunity, and Gray Tide, a principality whose primary goal is changeling asylum. These aren't the only factions within the region, but they are the most relevant to the plot. Feel free to discuss further options with me :)

About me
Hello, wannabe adventurers! I'm Elazar :) I am a new father and a university student studying mathematics and statistics. I've had a passion for tabletop RPGs since my earliest years of high school, and, as I'm sure is the case for many of you, have had a persistent role-playing itch ever since. I pride myself on being adaptable. Not only do I learn on the fly, but I make it a point of learning from my mistakes. I believe it's the primary reason I've become as good of a GM as I am. Additionally, I'm trying my hand at sci-fi settings (Eberron and a homebrew setting) and Pathfinder 2e after having D&D 5e as my main fix for the longest time. I love the game, but I'm excited to see what it has to offer.

Sets the Mood
Elazar was my GM for two campaigns, one of them being my first ever and he was fantastic! He is the ideal GM for first time players, very patient and works with you through every step of the game, including character creation! His stories are also very entertaining and multi-layered, perfectly balancing the arcs of the PC’s with the campaign plot. I could not possibly recommend Elazar more as both a GM and just a great person to talk you!
This DM I’ve been playing with since his very first game. I’ve seen his growth from a super green DM, so green that (as a new player myself) we had to sit down with the rulebooks to decipher combat, all the way to a DM that can masterfully craft an amazing experience for groups of any size and makeup. He’s super inventive with his use of music, and crafts fights meticulously tailored to a group’s strengths and weaknesses. He’s a solid mix of a traditional rules/combat heavy DM and a more role playing rule of cool DM, and I highly recommend him to any prospective or seasoned DND player
i play in an irl 5e game with elazar. he consistently goes out of his way to accommodate players both in and out of game, respecting the partys involvement with our characters and keeping the world responsive to whatever insane crap we pull in the heat of the moment while also keeping open channels of communication regarding scheduling and interpersonal issues. this is a solid gm and good people
I started playing D&D with Elazar as my DM. He was always incredibly helpful and patient with new players and their journey through learning the game. The lengths he went to set the mood and make sure you felt in his stories were incredible. Overall a phenomenal DM especially if you're looking for a non-judgemental, friendly table with terrific worldbuilding and storytelling.
Character creation
Creating your character
I'd like most of the character creation to be done outside of session 0. You can DM me with ideas and character sheets, but I understand that there needs to be a framework, so here are my guidelines: 1. You can use any class. If it's homebrew, I need to look over it before I say yes. 2. You can use any heritage or background appropriate for Eberron. So, unfortunately, that means no MTG setting options. However, if you want to make any modifications that fall outside of the rules to make your character feel more fun, we can talk about that. 3. Everyone can start with one rare magic item and one uncommon one, or one rare and two common. Again, I need to review them before it's a yes. As for actual character creation: 1. Ask yourself these questions, and please answer them when you write your backstory: How was your character affected by the Last War? Is your character from the Principalities? If yes, where? If not, why are they here? How did the news of Ryger's death impact you, if at all? 2. Include the people who raised you, your character's ideology, and the circumstances that brought them where they are now. 3. Include all of the characters' ages in your backstory. 4. Are there any secret motivations or goals you want your character to have? What do they want that they don't talk about? During session 0, we'll cover how your characters would know each other and how to integrate them into the plot.
Our first player is playing a Kobold Tempest Cleric/Storm Sorcerer, flavoring their abilities as elemental in origin. The other player is deciding between a goliath fighter (samurai)/assassin rogue or a soulknife rogue/illusion wizard. Overall, we'll have pretty niche characters, so I wouldn't worry about stepping on anyone's toes.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I like using Foundry VTT, Discord, and, more recently, Google Meet, but we will get all of that set up during session 0 to make sure everyone understands how everything works. I'm flexible when it comes to where you keep your character sheet. I like when people use DnDBeyond, but I'm also totally okay with people using other methods of character creation, such as paper or third-party apps. The important part is that I can easily access your character sheet. If all else fails, Foundry VTT offers character sheets.
What Elazar brings to the table
With Foundry VTT, I'll be able to provide immersive combat experiences with dynamic lighting and some instances of proximity-based audio special effects. I'll also bring music to the table, of course, and I'll do my best to have unique or fun voices for the NPCs. As for actual play, I have pretty substantial rules knowledge, but that doesn't stop me from letting my players veer outside of them. I mean, I have a fair amount of homebrew myself, who am I to stop you from having more fun? On that note, though, I do try to make my combats a little tougher, but not impossibly tough, so try to understand your character sheet as much as possible.
Homebrew rules
I have several rules outlining character creation, leveling up, and combat, all of which I consider beneficial: 1. Standard array of ability scores based on the average of player stat rolls. 2. Bonus feat at the beginning of play. 3. Maximum hit points. 4. Bonus action potion, but action for full healing. 5. Can cast two leveled spells in a turn as long as their combined level does not exceed your highest level spell slot, and one is an action and the other is a bonus action. 6. Dying condition (as described by XP to Level 3), combined with exhaustion now being 10 levels, and instead, each level of exhaustion gives a -1 to d20 rolls. 7. Maximum damage critical hits + rolled dice. 8. Pooled inspiration: everyone can use inspiration from a collective pool. 9. Gridless combat. I believe this allows for more freedom and creative play. I'll go more in-depth with these as I run session 0, but these are the most important ones.

Safety
How Elazar creates a safe table
During session 0, I will cover all of the safety precautions. First and foremost, we will have icebreakers! I like to get to know everyone, and I'm sure everyone wants to get along too. As a disclaimer, I will not tolerate anti-LGBTQ+, anti-POC, or any other bigoted commentary in or out of game. In-game prejudice, such as characters who come from traditionally opposed backgrounds, or a situation where a character has prejudice toward NPCs, must be discussed beforehand and agreed upon by EVERYONE at the table, including me. If you can't manage that, then this table is not right for you. However, WARNING: the plot I have written includes examples of prejudice written within the Eberron setting, and are vital to the plot. These include changelings, lizardfolk and dragonborn, and cultural xenophobia. An anonymous consent checklist will also be distributed to everyone to make it clear what will be okay in this game. During actual play, we will also have breaks whenever anyone is overwhelmed. And by default, there will be a break in the middle of every session over 3 hours.
