About the adventure

A One-Shot Chapter in the Armies of Despair Saga The Eastern Front is unraveling. Trenches rot with blood and bile. Screaming soldiers vanish beneath waves of undead. And overhead, the skies burn with the black sigil of Nuitari. At the heart of it all stands General Aranis Angelbane—a battlefield legend turned necromantic warmonger—binding the souls of fallen Ezran heroes into his unholy war machine. This is a high-level, one-shot black ops mission set in a war-ravaged fantasy world, a standalone chapter in the Armies of Despair saga. You and your fellow level 12 operatives are being dropped deep behind enemy lines with a singular goal: assassinate General Angelbane before his rituals doom the entire front. You'll brave undead monstrosities, cursed terrain, arcane traps, and decisions that could alter the tide of the war—or damn what remains of it. Expect brutal tactical combat, hard moral choices, and complete freedom in how you approach the mission. Will you go in quiet? Blow the gates and let the devils sort it out? Save the prisoners? Or leave them to burn? When the war stretches across continents, and the dead rise faster than reinforcements can arrive, killing one man won’t end it—but letting him live guarantees it never will. This is fantasy told in the tone of Hardcore History—messy, tragic, terrifying in its scale, and impossible to forget. Veterans of the Armies of Despair saga will spot familiar faces and grim echoes of past campaigns, but no experience is required. Just bring your best steel, your sharpest spells, and enough spite to carve a legend in the mud.

About me

I'm currently a House DM at The Kobold Lounge, where I run 3 homebrew campaigns for adults, as well as an introductory game for kids and another for teens. I started with a weekly game at my house. Shortly after I learned to play, I had to move. To keep up with my new hobby, I found and joined ahome game that was posted online. It was a terrible experience. Nobody at the table was having fun except for the DM, who delighted in playing against his party. His players looked and sounded bored, almost miserable; I never went back. Instead, I decided to start my own game with one goal: to make sure everyone has fun! -- If money is an obstacle, please DM me. I care more about us having fun than making money. I put a lot of effort into becoming the DM I am today, I make immersive, creative content that literally over a hundred players have loved & that's why I'm here. I'd like to make a living doing this, but I care about my players & that's never going to change.--- I started running my first homebrew D&D campaign in 2016. Since then I've engaged in collaborative storytelling with a ton of amazing players. I enjoy being a Sandbox DM, and I love players with unique ideas they want to try. My tables, physical and virtual, are the place to try out that crazy character idea or homebrewed subclass. I want to DM on StartPlaying to reach a wide player base, bring people together to have a blast, and provide opportunities for players everywhere to participate in my games.

What DM Nug Gnome brings to the table

As your DM, I bring a gritty, cinematic storytelling style where NPCs have motives, grudges, and scars—and they’ll remember your choices. Expect intense, tactical combat that rewards clever thinking, teamwork, and brutal efficiency. Every fight is a puzzle, every encounter is a pressure cooker, and your decisions will shape the outcome. I fully embrace the Rule of Cool, and I’ll never let paperwork get in the way of badassery. Want to suplex a death knight off a parapet? Drive a stolen war wagon through an undead legion? Cut a spell in half mid-cast with a cursed blade? Let’s figure it out. I use custom homebrew mechanics that open up creative possibilities—allowing players to push their characters beyond the printed page. You bring the wild idea, I’ll bring the mechanics to make it sing. This is a game for players who want to immerse, improvise, and leave a scorched mark on the world behind them.
