City of Mist: Nights of Payne Town [Play-by-Post]
The only ones who can stop the mayhem are nameless individuals, anti-heroes like your crew, caught in this mess unwillingly or all too willingly...
About the adventure
Official Description: This City is going to hell. Here, ordinary people have the power of legends and no-one on the streets even knows. Everyone is hustling. Gods fight for their next paycheck while monsters control the drug trade. Why do we keep hurting ourselves? Do the stories inside us push us to kill? Or is it just our old wounds, buried out of sight and out of mind? The people who once tried to heal this City are now haunting it, drinking the misery of millions. All these wounded souls are stealing, backstabbing, killing, their pain glowing like neon in the night. That’s the way this City is. These are the Nights of Payne Town. It is a time of turmoil in the City. The police are helpless against a new wave of crime, powered by forces they neither see nor understand. Ancient legends that were scheming in the shadows for decades are now finally enacting their insidious plans, raining chaos and suffering on the streets. The only ones who can stop this mayhem are nameless individuals, anti-heroes like your crew, caught in this mess unwillingly or all too willingly... Behind it all lies a sordid truth and a malignant power that has been feeding on the misery of the City since its early days. But, even there, in the heart of darkness, there is hope... Can you find it? ------ New to Play-by-Post? No problem! It is a low-stress, highly-rewarding format and I'll help you every step of the way. [Play-by-Post] Do you want to join a campaign but your availability prevents you from committing regularly? Does engaging at your own pace throughout the week without the pressure of the moment and with access to live chats with your Dungeon Master sound appealing? Well you're in the right place! The Play-by-Post (PbP) format is nearly as old as D&D and is a rewarding way to engage in this fantastic pastime. While it is true that the comradery of the kitchen table is lost in PbP, you gain the ability to plan without pressure, to refine your roleplay, to research your actions. And many see Play-by-Post as more immersive than live games, that the Theater-of-the-Mind is more easily engaged without the distractions of half-decent accents, the bell of midnight quickly approaching, and the smell of aging nachos. *Note: This adventure is Play-by-Post and will be conducted throughout the week at your pace. While live check-ins with me are available, the adventure will be conducted in Discord channels where we will also store concept art, maps, a compendium of magic items, a room for chit chat, and more. Please send me a message if you'd like to know more.

About me
I will set the stage for you to tell your character's tale. Storytelling is at the heart of everything I do, from creative writing to teaching literature to myths and legends retellings around the campfire. Good stories are all about tension and release, about stakes. Tabletop Roleplaying Games are another manifestation of that but are unique in one way: we create stories together. We become the heroes we have always dreamed of. I’ve been a professional Gamemaster for over three years and a non-pro GM for far longer. I’ve clocked over 1000 hours of digital GMing (not to mention the years of PbP and in-person) and have introduced over 200 new players to the past-time. I have run and still run campaigns professionally for teenagers on Outschool.com where I have nearly 150 five-star reviews.

Creating your character
We will have a Session 0 where we get to know one another, discuss the "truths" of the campaign, share our character concepts, and build character bonds together. We'll plan to come away from Session 0 with a number of questions to flesh out in order to more deeply flesh out our characters and bonds. I'll follow up on those questions throughout the first week to support you.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a phone, computer, or laptop, of course. You'll also need an Account with Discord. Maps will be shared by me. Come with a rough idea of what you want to play but be flexible. If you're a beginner, let me know and we can work on this together!
What GM Grant brings to the table
We'll house all character art, maps, notes, NPC info, etc. in a Discord server I manage. We will house character in D&D Beyond where you'll have access to all of my purchased content (which includes all available character options). I use Tupperbox to display the various NPCs and give a deeper sense of immersion. I'll run maps through Owlbear Rodeo with a vast library of assets but use concept art for most exploration and roleplay.

How GM Grant creates a safe table
Each player will have their own, private channel within the server if they need to reach out to me for any reason. I'm also available to talk over video chat upon request. We will have a Session 0 in a Discord server devoted to that. We'll all check off the Monte Cook Checklist before we begin.
