About the adventure

Ave Nox is a mega dungeon published by Feral Indie Studios. The pitch from the back of the book is: "Players take on the role of sactified archeologists, opportunistic delvers, or despised grave-robbers, all converging on a massive newly unearthed ruin. What starts as a curiousity turns into a grand expedition as the ruin reveals itself to be a subterranean megastructure, complete with ancient technology, strange treasures, and still living agents of the Sun-King."

About me

Hello all! I am Grey, a GM who has been playing in (but mostly running) games since 2017. While I’m most experienced with Dungeons and Dragons 5e, I’ve run several other systems and really enjoy exploring new rulesets and worlds. I’m a growing writer and strong advocate of collaborative storytelling, always emphasizing being a safe space and trying to create a tailored experience that best fits the particular table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen before the game starts, being finalized in Session 0. Character creation should be informed by both the adventure hook and the feedback I can provide about what the campaign will entail. During character creation players will use the rolling method in the Player Handbook but if the total of the scores equals less than 70, they are allowed reroll until it’s above that threshold. Players will be starting at level 1 and will have to provide a copy of their character sheets to the GM. Banned Content: D&D ‘24 exclusive content Unearthed Arcana content Silvery Barbs The Lucky and Keen Mind feats Chaotic Evil alignment Homebrew (without getting approval) Additional Backgrounds from the adventure: Loathsome Graverobber, Blundering Academic, Charlatan Historian, Begrudging Spelunker, Exiled Descendant, Desperate Fool These will be made available in the handout.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This game will be played through Discord with cameras turned off, but players will be required to have a microphone. A basic understanding of the central mechanics is needed but advanced knowledge of all rules is not. Please reach out to me for an invite to my Discord, a google form, and handout. Also, have thought or sketched out character creation before session 0.

What Grey brings to the table

I have the adventure and a variety of supplements for plants, monster parts, and crafting that can be implimented if desired. I have a Discord server for all my games and will always run soundtracks for each session via a bot, which can be muted if needed. I try to make each character have a somewhat distinct voice and have a large focus on immersive roleplay. Majoratively I follow the Rule of Cool, meaning that I often rule in favor of players who think outside of their stats and skills to try bold or unconvential things. Below are some other pillars of my table experience. Reasonability: I’m not perfect. If I make a mistake in rulings or with how I handle something, please let me know and I will do my best to correct it. Cooperation: I prioritize player cooperative and individual experiences highly. If anyone is not having fun or getting something out of each session, they are free to let me know what I can do to improve or rework the game. However, player's only get out as much as they put in. If they participate, engage, and really invest, I can help turn that around into a worthwhile tabletop experience. Communication: Communication is key to getting. If a player want something in or out of character, letting me and the other players know should be the first step. Communication and creativity are musts. Talking to fellow players and me. Being vocal about character, goals, and how a player can contribute. Let imagination take us further, grab any and every idea that can be added to the game. Play the way that gets player ideas out onto the table. Involvement/Investment: This is roleplay. If a player wants to do something, they should give it a shot. I can’t guarantee it will always succeed, but I’ll try to make something out of whatever is given me. I fundamentally want a game where all people are intent about progressing and learning.

Safety

How Grey creates a safe table

I will link a google form to players before the game properly begins to help them and me get to know what their expectations and limits are as well as set up options for safety at the table. Also, after each session I will stay on call for a little while to discuss with players that need to debrief, chat about how the game is progressing, or simply have needs that are to be addressed. Being mean, cruel, calloused, bigoted, intrusive, or foul is cause to be ejected from the game. Also, I will expect each player to give space for their fellow players to speak and have their own scenes. I don’t play with people I can’t tolerate or are hurtful, so I will enforce these standards at my table. I generally am fairly lenient towards people who talk across the table with advice or knowledge. So long as the gap between player and character knowledge is mostly intact, I’ll be happy. I may pull aside players who are prolific meta-gamers, and ask them to reduce the amount they do it. I am open to anyone creating an ‘optimal’ build, so long as they don’t expect to receive all the magic items, boons, or extras required to make it tick. Preferably, players want to play not just to complete a cool build and are just as engaged in the story as other players. If anyone are showing signs of being solely around just to power-game, I may pull them aside and ask them to try to change priorities.
