About the adventure
Welcome to Haven's Mill - Population 2,847... and counting? The rusty "Welcome to Haven's Mill" sign creaks ominously in the wind as the Mystery Machine... er, your van rolls into town. The faded paint reveals older numbers underneath - 2,963, 3,102 - like someone keeps having to paint over higher populations. Weird. Main Street stretches through town like a crooked grin, lined with brick buildings that have seen better decades. Morton's General Store's window display hasn't changed since 1987 - and that's not nostalgia, that's just plain creepy. The mannequins seem to follow you with their painted eyes. The Bluebird Diner's neon sign flickers S.O.S. in Morse code, but only when nobody's looking directly at it. Mrs. Patterson has run the library since... well, nobody can remember exactly when she started. Or how old she is. Or why she never seems to age. The photo wall shows her in the same position for decades. The abandoned lumber mill looms on the town's edge like a giant wooden/brick skeleton. Its broken windows stare across the dark waters of the Saco River, and strange sounds echo from inside after midnight. The town council keeps meaning to tear it down, but every demolition crew that shows up mysteriously quits by morning. The Historical Society on the first floor? Let's just say some of those "artifacts" weren't there yesterday. Sure, Haven's Mill looks picture-perfect in the postcards, but visitors never stay past sundown. Maybe it's the way the fog rolls in and seems to whisper warnings. Maybe it's how the shadows move independently of their owners. Or maybe it's because this town has been keeping a very big, very dangerous secret. Something's not right in Haven's Mill, gang. Time to split up and investigate!

About me
Welcome one and all! I'm an experienced teacher, an avid reader and writer, and a world traveler. I put these aspects into my games to create diverse, immersive worldbuilding and roleplay. I am new to StartPlaying, but I've been running Adventure's Leagues and personal games for almost a decade. I have a love of roleplaying, voice acting, improv, fantasy and science fiction. I love to guide new GMs and players into the wonderful world of TTRPG. An inclusive table is important, so all are welcome to sit beside me as we adventure. Safety is my number one priority at the table. It's my goal to give everyone a memorable experience. I primarily run Monster of the Week, but I also love Mothership, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Daggerheart, and other systems. I provide immersive experiences through a blend of ambient music and sundry characters and maps.

Creating your character
Monster of the Week features different character types called "playbooks," each representing a unique member of your mystery-solving team! Pick the playbook that sounds most fun to play; each one has cool abilities that will help solve mysteries! Have a rough idea of what kind of mystery-solver you want to play. Are you the brave leader, the smart researcher, the tech expert, the one with supernatural abilities, or the heart of the group who keeps everyone together? Don't worry about filling out every detail. We'll develop your character's history and connections during our first session together!
Saturday morning Monster of the Week. Biweekly one-shot episodes mean anyone can play; all are welcome. Make a character (link below) and come join us. Discord and mic are required, but cameras are encouraged! Theater of the Mind playstyle. https://evilhat.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Monster-of-the-Week-Revised-Playbooks-Formfillable.pdf
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All you NEED is a microphone. Cameras are encouraged, but not required. Rules, character creation, etc. will happen in our first session. Part of the MOTW experience is building a shared history between player characters! The best cartoon adventures happen when the whole gang works together! Be ready to share the spotlight, help other characters shine, and remember that everyone contributes something important to solving the mystery.

How Non Playable Aaron creates a safe table
Game Rules and Expectations: Inclusion and Respect: A fundamental rule of all my games is the promotion of a safe and inclusive environment. I strictly prohibit any form of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, bigotry, and other forms of discrimination. This also extends to harmful stereotypes within the fantasy context, such as assuming all orcs are inherently evil. It is essential to foster a respectful atmosphere for all players. Sensitive Content: The game will not include explicit scenes of sexual assault (SA), nonconsensual acts, or torture. While such elements may exist in the backstories of non-player characters (NPCs) or potentially in the backgrounds of player characters (PCs) with prior approval, they will not be explicitly described or directly mentioned during gameplay. The focus is on maintaining a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all participants. Creating a Fun Experience: The primary goal is to have fun and enjoy the game together. We will discuss gameplay elements, such as puzzle-solving, combat, or other aspects, to ensure everyone's preferences are considered. Character Dynamics and Sheets: I encourage open communication about character dynamics and relationships within the game. We will engage in conversations to establish compelling interactions and connections between the player characters. Additionally, for those new to Monster of the Week, I will provide a comprehensive explanation of the gameplay mechanics and assist in creating character sheets by request. Post-Game Discussion and Support: After each session, I like to engage in a brief chat with the players to debrief, share thoughts, and lighten the mood with humor. I strive to maintain a balance between intense and lighthearted moments during the game. By adhering to these guidelines, we can foster an inclusive, enjoyable, and supportive atmosphere where everyone can participate fully and have a memorable experience. Let's embark on an exciting adventure together and create unforgettable stories while respecting each other's boundaries and preferences.
