About the adventure
The Howling meets The Most Dangerous Game as you have to find and stop bougie werewolves from devouring unhoused people for sport, all without going on the menu yourselves! This game is an ideal one-shot for newer players who are excited to learn how to play as well as for experienced players who want to really put the "hunt" in monster hunters.

About me
Hello! My name is Phoenix (he/him) and I am a writer, publisher and GM with over a decade of experience running a variety of RPGs! I specialize in running games that are fun, suspenseful and inclusive! I welcome all levels of RPG experience, beginners encouraged! I especially love Monster of the Week and Powered by the Apocalypse games in general!

Creating your character
Character creation is one of the most fun parts of Monster of the Week! It helps establish how you all know one another and what kind of cool monster hunter you are. We will meet on the Discord and discuss your preferred playbooks, then use a Session Zero to create your hunters and figure out your history prior to game. If you would prefer a pre-gen, pre-gens can be provided! While I prefer that players use one of the officially approved Playbooks (most of which can be found here - https://evilhat.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Monster-of-the-Week-Revised-Playbooks-Formfillable.pdf ), particularly for their first game, I am open to reviewing any 3rd party playbooks you might want to use before game. The only banned Playbook on my list is The Meddling Kid, as it will not fit the tone of our game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need at least a mic and a stable internet connection. I am OK with you not being on camera if you don't feel comfortable doing so. Having both a Discord account and Roll20 account is highly preferred but we can work around a lack of one or the other (but not both). I will provide links to all playing materials you might need prior to play in my Discord. The majority of them are all available for free on Evil Hat's website (https://evilhat.com/monster-of-the-week/ ), including a quick player guide to the basic moves and rules (https://evilhat.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Monster-of-the-Week-Revised-Hunter-Reference-Sheets.pdf). If you're familiar with Powered by the Apocalypse style games, great! If not, I am happy to teach rules and principles of play in our Session Zero. You will be expected to create a new character for our one-shot, but creating a character is very fun in MotW as you will be able to establish in-game relationships with your fellow hunters as part of it, as well as possibly create some in-game lore! I will happily answer any questions you may have about the 12 original hunter archetypes to choose from here (https://evilhat.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Monster-of-the-Week-Revised-Playbooks-Formfillable.pdf). Also, if none of them speak to you, I can offer other official playbooks from the two newer MotW expansions. If you would prefer a pre-gen, pre-gens can be provided! Just let me know what sort of monster hunter you'd like to be.
What Phoenix Bryan brings to the table
STYLE: One of the rules of the game is to play to see what happens! I do value player freedom and creativity and encourage the Rule of Cool but following the PbtA style rules of the game should feel easy and intuitive. If you have any questions about how things work, I'll be happy to answer them in our Session Zero or during play! TONE: I like to hit the happy balance between funny, scary and action packed. Think Supernatural, Wednesday and/or X-Files. I'm happy to adjust the level of horror vs. humor according to player preferences. COMBAT: Combat in MotW is supposed to be scary and dangerous, so dying can be easy, ESPECIALLY if you haven't cleverly discovered the monster's weakness before you confront it. With that said, you'll only die on my watch if you do something insanely ill-advised or actively want your character to have a heroic sacrifice. You're supposed to be the heroes of this story and I'll make sure you have fun! TECHNICAL STUFF: Monster of the Week is a theater of the mind game but we will be using Roll20's already established partnership with the creators of the game to use their character sheets and rolling mechanics. Prior to that, we will meet in my Discord server to do a Session Zero and we can use the voice/video on there if anyone has any technical difficulties with Roll20.
Homebrew rules
I can accept third party playbooks upon review, depending on how they read, but I don't expect this to come up much given how there's 16 base playbooks to choose from!

How Phoenix Bryan creates a safe table
We will start out with a pre-game Session 0 for building your hunters and figuring out your team history and vibe on my Discord. If you would prefer a pre-gen, pre-gens can be provided! I will send out a private document for each player to give me your Lines and Veils. I will accept making the "X" gesture on video as an X card, as well saying "X Card" or sending me a private X card message.
