About the adventure

You recently found yourself in the possession of a strange ticket for a vehicle known as the Ghostlight Express. It has a time, date and name of a town on it: Druskenvald, however you are certain you've never heard that name in your life. As you read the ticket, a strange feeling comes over you like a shiver through your spine. Something isn't quite right. You hear the bell nearby tolls midnight as a fog slowly begins to creep up you as the sound of a fiddle begins to play in the distance. The squeak of nails on a chalkboard is heard as an old black locomotive, rusted and battered from age rolls out of the gloomy mist, slowing to a halt in front of you and opens it's doors revealing the dimly candle-lit passenger car... All Aboard. COME EXPERIENCE THE BRAND NEW FOLK HORROR CAMPAIGN WRITTEN BY THE CREATORS OF LEGENDS OF AVANTRIS AND TRY ONE OF MANY NEW SPECIES AND SUBCLASSES USING THE 2024 RULE SET! "Hungry woods reaching high Snatch the light out from the sky Leafy sighs, creaking bones Pray you don't get found alone" "Crickly crack, the branches pop Here crawls the night that never stops A tree there leans with twisted grin Her limbs are thrawn, her soul is sin" "Underneath the Crooked Moon Stalks the King on cloven hoof In pale decay and empty gloom He comes for you..."

About me

🐿️Hey guys, Squirrel here!🐿️ 😮With over 1 year and now over 500 games, I've realized that if you work hard enough you can truly turn your passion into work. And as they say if you love your job, you never work a day in your life! With 10+ years TTRPG experience and a lifelong love for acting (including 2 and a 1/2 years as a scare actor!) I thrive to bring my players moments that they will talk about for a VERY long time! 🎲During my session you can expect fantastic storytelling, a passion for collaboration, individual and unique NPC voices as well as a love to help players of all skill levels! Everyone starts somewhere, so why not start here and let's build your story together! 🫂Outside of StartPlaying I also run an AWESOME community of people! Our community holds itself to be inclusive to all people, no matter of ANY difference! (Yes, that includes skill difference! We will help you out~ 😛) No matter the table, I've always found myself surrounded by some of the coolest people! So what are you waiting for? Sign up for a game and meet some of the coolest people around! 🎆Well Gamers, Thanks for taking the time to check out my profile! Hope to see you around the table, and may your Ds always be 20!

Played a handful of games with Squirrel so far, the man is absolutely on point with his world building, character voices and personality, making every session as fun as possible whether they be simple setups, more roleplaying or combat focused and always has a great spin on well versed modules that make them feel fresh and exciting no matter how many times you may have gone through them before. He's also a great GM for players new and experienced, always making everyone feel welcome and safe. From the longer campaigns to the one shots, he's an absolute gem and I absolutely 100% recommend him to anyone on here who is struggling to find a GM because you will definetly not regret playing with him.

Great GM, provides a nice, welcoming environment. I've only played DND In person with longtime friends before so was super anxious coming into playing but those anxieties quickly dispersed. It was all to easy to get lost in their storytelling and engaging, descriptive combat

Squirrel is great about crafting unique characters with original mannerisms and voices. Very immersive settings and creative descriptions in and out of combat. They also host an excellent community, so their games are very inclusive and feel good to be a part of.

Currently I am in 3 of their games. Every week, there are nice twists and turns, they are always finding new ways to improve, and most importantly they are always available to talk with. Very communicative. Would highly recommend to anyone who's new or a veteran player.

As a player in one of Squirrel’s Descent into Avernus Games and many of their various one-shots, I just need to finally sit down and write this overdue review of their GM-ing. Squirrel is one of the best GM’s I’ve ever had in my now 6 ish years of tabletop gaming. I’ve been both GM and player for those years so I feel qualified enough to praise their work from both angles. As a player, I love how Squirrel is patient with those that have less experience in the game, willing to explain or wait to let other players explain confusing concepts to a confused player. They have a good grasp on the rules of DND5e, and when mechanical edge cases come up, they are very good at making fair rulings that keep the game flowing well, and revising said rulings for longer term play. As a GM, I am very impressed with their ability to pace a session very cleanly. Almost none of our sessions have run more than a few minutes long, and we always have a well timed break that doesn’t disrupt the flow of the game. In addition to all that, their ability to create atmosphere is incredible. Squirrel has a well stocked soundboard of special effects that enhance the narrations that they give, and they have music playing that is updated to match the mood of the game. Not only that, the music is optional to listen to, as the Bot they use to play it can be volume controlled for each individual player, so those that find it distracting can choose to simply use Squirrel’s immersive descriptions to visualize the game world. I know this review is long overdue, but I would hate to lose the opportunity to let anyone who is interested in Squirrel’s games know that you will 100% get your money’s worth if you book with them.

Decided to play with Squirrel after they posted their start for Strixhaven. My spouse and I really like DnD for the story telling and RP of it all, so we gave them a shot. I was blown away from session zero with this DM. They helped me create a character for the world, included other players to help them get the spotlight, and their acting is really amazing to boot. Honestly, if I could select more than three tags for Squirrel I would! Rule of Cool, Good for beginners, Knows the Rules should be a part of what I describe on top of the Story Teller, Creativity, and inclusion tags. Trust me when I say that they are 100% one of the best DMs that I can possibly think of. Their community on discord is so wholesome too. Stop wasting time reading my review and just join a game with them already.

Character creation
Creating your character

- Must make a level one character using standard array/point buy for stats. - May use any of the races/subclasses from the Official D&D Books or the Crooked Moon sourcebook! Please ask about other races in this setting! - Please no Obojima or Humblewood Spells!

The current party

Party is currently Level 3, about to begin the campaign. Perfect time to join.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You will need to have/bring: -A Microphone and Discord Downloaded -A DNDBeyond and a Roll20 account (They're both free) -Beyond20 Browser extension for Firefox or Chrome (Not necessary but makes stuff easier) -A Webcam (If you would like to use video, but this isn't required) -A Positive Attitude and a BIG Smile :D

What Squirrel brings to the table

As your GM, I bring a variety of tools to each of my games. Aside from the typical stuff (Roll20, Discord and DNDBeyond), I also really enjoy bringing NPCs to life with different personalities and voices, as well as a constant ambient backtrack to make you really feel immersed in the world. When it comes to rulings, I like to read the table. If the table wants a hardcore RAW experience then we will stick to the rules as they were written, but if the table is looking to kick back and have fun then I'm totally here for it! Rules are only as fun as we at the table make them. Lastly, when you're playing at my table, pack extra smiles and be prepared to HAVE FUN!

Safety
How Squirrel creates a safe table

When it comes to player safety and comfort nothing is more important, which is why during every session zero I make sure to ask my players about their limits by doing a quick check in about each players triggers and Xs or Ns, letting them know any content warnings that may be present in the adventure and informing them about my open door, break and debrief policies. Players are also welcome at any time to either take breather or a break from the game, and at no point will they ever be asked to go into detail about ANYTHING they may not be comfortable with. Also, while the game is going on, if at any point a player needs content to stop immediately, they may hold up an X/N or type one in chat. This will allow me to make the necessary moves needed to make sure everyone continues to have a great time playing! Lastly, I am a huge believer in debriefing/aftercare. At the end of each session I will always hang around for anywhere between 15-30 minutes to chat about the session and to just generally hang out with anyone who wants to stick around! This is great for sessions where we may get into some heavier content so we can either discuss it or unpack it if need be! Remember, your comfort and your fun come first!
