Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi everyone! I'm Zac Johnson. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons since middle school, when my friends and I would meet up weekly to play. We actually started with 1st Edition, using my friend’s dad’s original books and minis — a true old-school experience. I've been a Dungeon Master for several years now, with plenty of experience running both official published adventures and homebrew campaigns. I also have a solid collection of one-shots ready to go if your group prefers short, standalone sessions. I have one core rule at my table: You can do whatever you want — as long as everyone is having fun. If something starts taking away from the group’s enjoyment, we’ll talk about it and adjust. Everyone is welcome at my table. I believe anyone can play D&D, no matter their background or experience. Lastly, while I do encourage roleplaying, you'll never be pushed beyond your comfort zone. Play in the way that feels right for you.

Creating your character
You will be creating a level 1 character. You may use any official race but the more exotic races must be approved. For example any Spell Jammer race. There are no limitations on class selection as long as it is official material. If you would like to use homebrew material of any kind you must get permission first. Please no evil characters. A D&Dbeyond campaign will be provided for character creation. Be ready to either create your character at Session Zero or discuss them during.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a good mic and internet connection. I recomend people use a webcam but it is not mandatory. It helps connect to one another, people can read non-verbal cues, see reactions better, tell when someone wants to talk. It's useful for everyone. From experience it helps with group interaction. You will need a Discord account for communication outside the game. You will need to make a Foundry account. If you don't have your own dice to roll there will be digital way to roll them too.
What Zachary brings to the table
We will be using Foundry VTT, which will include maps, tokens, music and many other enhancements. I will also be providing access to a D&Dbeyond campaign that will provide you with almost all official character creation material. While for the most part I run Rules as Written, if it fits a moment or to speed the game along I also will use the Rule of Cool.
Homebrew rules
Drinking a potion is a bonus action. I use a homebrew rule for death saving throws called Death's Door. It gives changes to do things while making death saving throws so you are still part of the combat. More rules maybe added depending on how the group feels.

How Zachary creates a safe table
One of the main themes of this campaign is gothic horror, so darker elements show up regularly. But as listed below this game also uses the lines and veils tool so if there is a specific element you are worried about it can be dealt with. There will be a free Session Zero for the group to meet and discuss safety and the game. We will also be creating characters during, while discussing anything the group wants to know about the campaign in general. This session will be free. General Rating: PG:13 - Can be past this depending on situation and group. A more adult game is possible. We will be using the Lines and Veils tool, this tool is intended to put limits on the game. Lines are things you as a player don't want to happen at all in the game, hard stop. Veils are things you don't want described and if they happen in game it will just 'fade to black' and then the game will continue. X, N, and O Cards are used to signal during the game without needed to speak up. These cards are digital in the VTT. Open Door means that is any player wants to they can take a break from the game if they feel they need it, no questions asked. Stars and Wishes is at the end of a session where players can say what they liked and what they want to change. CODE OF CONDUCT - NO Bullying, hazing, or otherwise picking on a fellow character. You are a team and as such will treat each other with respect. - NO Sexual content (sweet talking may be used as a form of persuasion but ONLY with NPCs) Try and keep it pg-13 at least in this area - NO Shutting down other players ideas or actions. Each player has a chance to voice their thoughts or intent. If you say "My character will try..." after I determine if the game allows that action, we will then play out the outcome. If you ask the party for their opinion, then that action can be decided upon by the group (in or out of character). There are no wrong answer or suggestions. This can be overridden if you feel uncomfortable with something someone is doing. If during a live game something comes up that is making you uncomfortable, please speak up and the event/action will cease immediately.
