About Zachary

Hi everyone! I'm Zac Johnson. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons since middle school, when my friends and I would meet up weekly to play. We actually started with 1st Edition, using my friend’s dad’s original books and minis — a true old-school experience. I've been a Dungeon Master for several years now, with plenty of experience running both official published adventures and homebrew campaigns. I also have a solid collection of one-shots ready to go if your group prefers short, standalone sessions. I have one core rule at my table: You can do whatever you want — as long as everyone is having fun. If something starts taking away from the group’s enjoyment, we’ll talk about it and adjust. Everyone is welcome at my table. I believe anyone can play D&D, no matter their background or experience. Lastly, while I do encourage roleplaying, you'll never be pushed beyond your comfort zone. Play in the way that feels right for you.

When I'm not running games I'm...

I spend a lot my spare time reading novels both physical and digital. I also have a passion for coding. I am actually working on some projects to combine my love of D&D and programming.

I became a GM because

After a few years of being a player I realized I had a lot ideas of my own that I would love for my friends to play.

My favorite system of all Time is

Dungeons and Dragons 5e. Years ago in highschool my friends introduced me to the system and I have been playing it ever since. I have played other systems and have fallen in love with some of them but I always come back to D&D.

How Zachary runs games

I love role play, I’m ok with both running a serious game or a goofy nonsense game. I’m ok to run long campaigns or short one-shots. I encourage creativity in my players. I both love and hate when my players do something that catches me completely off guard. I embrace the Rule of Cool, if a player wants to do something fun that does not fit the rules as written I am inclined to let them try it out.

I once ran a session...

Where a player skated down a ice tunnel while transformed into a giant wolf spider ending it with a sick jump through the air.

Rules are...

Guidelines for play, they are not set in stone. I am fully open to changing or bending rules to make things more fun for the players.

I deal with rules issues by...

By either making a temporary decision to keep the game going and addressing it fully after the game or I put it to a vote with the players. I want to keep people happy and the game running.

Zachary's ideal table

My ideal table is a group of people who want to make friends and have a good time. People should be able to joke around and have fun. I love players who roleplay but I am careful of players who roleplay in ways that could bother other players. I don't mind in party conflict but it should never spread to the people playing the game.

Featured Prompts

I think it's a red flag when players...

A player includes things in their character that they know will cause conflict with other players. For example taking offense with certain things a person says but never showing there is a problem until the conflict is already started.

I love it when a player

Tries to use abilities of their character in unique and creative ways.

My table is not the place for...

Politics, major world events or any other controversial subjects that can cause conflict. Feel free to talk about them just not at my table.
