About the adventure

Outside a remote monastery on the island nation of Jalmeray, an ancient pact between two unlikely friends is coming to a bittersweet end ... Twisting reality itself to fulfill his oath, a trickster god sets in motion a plan that could open a bridge between worlds ... or it could unravel the fabric of space and time for an entire continent ... It's up to a small band of heroes to help fulfill a promise over two thousand years in the making ... or see the world of Golarion fall to madness if they fail! This world-spanning adventure will see your characters befriending elder genies and mad wizards, fighting horrible constructs of magic and flesh, and journeying deep into the darkest heart of a forbidden land. You'll travel from the picturesque hills and beaches of Jalmeray to the warring nations of Geb and Nex, make your way from the shining surreal city of Quantium to the thundering Gunworks of the Mana Wastes, and finally across the Ndele Gap and into the dense jungles of the Mwangi Expanse. You'll have to work together to decide just how much you trust your mischievous patron deity ... and whether or not you follow his instructions will have far-reaching and devastating consequences! Our adventure will see you rise from Level 2 to Level 12, giving you a chance to go from little-known adventurers to infamous heroes of the Impossible Lands!

About me

There are an infinite number of stories to be told, so let's tell some of them together! TTRPGs are such a wonderful way of building a tight community and having a wildly imaginative time doing it. Whatever universe you'd like to play in, I can make that happen! I have experience in a wide variety of game systems, and come prepared to set up an even wider variety of homebrew settings as well.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll mainly do character creation together during our Session Zero, allowing you to build your character as you want and make sure they synergize well with the rest of your party. I'll have several pre-built templates or archetypes that you can choose from, speeding up the process a bit while still letting you customize your character's backstory, personality, etc. as you like. As another option, you can start with a totally blank character and build them from scratch, giving you the opportunity to put them together from the ground up and make them entirely your own! Either way is totally acceptable, but we'll finalize all our character choices together during Session Zero. Pathfinder has an extensive character creation process, with a lot of great choices and ways to customize your character and make them unique. I do encourage you to make use of the plethora of free resources that Paizo makes available online, just to familiarize yourself with some of your character options before we start and make sure you're not super overwhelmed during Session Zero. The Archives of Nethys is a wonderful place to start online, and there are a lot of others out there as well. The world of Golarion is full of wonderful races, cultures, and classes of adventurers, and all are welcome to join this epic quest!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We'll meet on my Discord server for sessions and messaging, so a microphone is needed. A webcam is welcome but not required! You don't need to worry about reading the rules ahead of time. We'll cover a wide variety of rules during character creation, and the rest as they come up naturally in our story. We will be sticking to as many of the rules as we can, but I also enjoy a good Rule of Cool, too, so don't be afraid to try things! I also want things like combat to lean more toward feeling dynamic and fun, so I won't be a stickler for every single rule in the book at all times. Bring a set of dice, either digital or physical, and maybe some paper and pencil to sketch out ideas and notes. Otherwise, just bring your imagination and be ready to tell an amazing story together!

What Paul Willis brings to the table

I bring a passion and excitement for storytelling from 30 years of developing my own worlds and settings, and I think that joy can be felt by my players! I will provide tons of custom-made maps for encounters, and I own 25+ Pathfinder modules to draw from for resources. While I am not a professional voice actor, I enjoy using a wide variety of accents and voices for NPCs. And I love when my players can do the same and really roleplay their character however much they're comfortable with! Pathfinder is very rules-heavy, so I am not expecting us to stick to all rules at all times. We'll do our best together, but sometimes the Rule of Cool will take precedence if the moment calls for it. Combat encounters will push you to use your abilities and tactics, and will present a wide variety of ways for you to work together as a team.

Safety

How Paul Willis creates a safe table

I will send out a link to the group for the RPG Consent Checklist I use, and I'll ask players to look it over before Session Zero. If they want to message me privately about any phobias or boundaries or anything like that they can, but we'll also go over the Checklist at the start of our Session Zero so all players are on the same page and understanding of one another's limits. I like to check in with my players between sessions to bounce ideas off them regarding their characters or the larger story in general, and I encourage everyone to contact me if anything comes up. My open door policy is always in effect, as I want players to always feel good about bringing things to me that are on their mind. During sessions I'll also keep a text channel open so players can contact me discreetly if anything is making them uncomfortable. We'll take a short break in the middle of our sessions (about 5-10 minutes), and a few minutes at the end to debrief a bit with everyone. Bear in mind that all Content Warnings below can be changed if they touch on any of my players' Lines and Veils. My priority is for players to feel safe and have fun!
