About the adventure

The Thaw, the first day of Spring, has brought forth the brilliant colors of blooming flowers and the sweet babbling of the cool river’s water flow. Folks sing in the market streets as the shops open their doors to sell their hoarded wares that have sat untouched since the Frost fell. Houndsgard, a little village that lies on the border of the Secret Thorne woods, is quaint and welcoming. The inhabitants live within the hollow trees of the ancient forest, and simple pathways have been laid with pebbles and rocks between the homes and businesses. The community here is strong and well knit, where neighbors help each other when they are in need, and the travelers are welcomed on their way in or out of the woods. This town gathers food together, and distributes it among the folks for winter. All year, the inhabitants here take jobs to aid in this effort, whether that be by gardening, blacksmithing, foraging, fishing, or being another part of how the cogs of the town turn. Everyone has a job, and everyone is grateful for it. Even the children have a job, when they play in the streets and sing of the Hollow Wind. A playful reminder of old, unexplained dangers, as children are often burdened to carry. A story they’ve only heard in the ramblings of elders, echoing the streets and living in rhymes and jumprope. The Frost will come fast, the harvests may fail. The watchers may leave, and the winds be unveiled. Fire will fade, and stars wont stay. The woods will remember what’s been locked away. So gather close, and guard the flame- Where will you be when the Hollow Wind whispers your name?

About me

Hello and welcome! I’m Pierce and I’d like to be your GM! I hope your travels so far have been kind to you, and I hope you’re ready for another! Or, if this is your first adventure, I’m honored to be your guide as you take your first steps! A bit about me: - I’ve been a professional dungeon master for 1 year, teaching kids aged 8-15 the ins and outs and joys of D&D. - I’ve been a hobbyist GM for 6 years, running home games for friends and family across several systems. - I’m an artist (and former tattoo artist), and can/will provide hand drawn character portraits for you and your table! - My favorite TTRPG system is the World of Darkness Storyteller System, with Dungeons and Dragons as a close second. - I am an avid video gamer as well, and play a multitude of games on PC, and have a big soft spot in my heart for Rock Band. Things to expect at my table: - Focus on role playing, where combat is used for the story rather than to fill space, and exploration is up to you. - Stories catered to you and your character rather than rigid adherence to existing narratives. - Active interest in your character arc and goals, tell me where you wanna go and how! - A dedicated discord server for each game with active participation from me - An open-door policy for kind and friendly conversation, even about the hard stuff - Curated Spotify/Youtube playlists to encapsulate the vibes of your game - Mutual respect for every single person, regardless of any variables - Time taken for each and every person at the table to get their handle on the rules and gameplay, with any assistance needed freely given. If all of this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, I’d like to formally invite you to join me at the table! I’m excited to meet you and craft your next favorite adventure.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will be done as a group during session 0, or with me, via DMs or other preferred methods of communication. Some things to think about for making your character: - Think of a woodland creature (use the Humblewood source book if you like) with a job in Houndsgard. They can do anything here, from owning the coffee shop to being a simple farmer, or being part of the town guard! Use the Humblewood - How long has your character lived in Houndsgard? Are they a new arrival, looking to put down roots? Maybe they’re homegrown, but maybe wouldn’t mind seeing the world someday. They could be someone who had to spend the winter here, and is looking for the first ride out. - Think of three words that would describe your character’s personality. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

The current party

Our party is currently comprised of Rosie Pricklepear, a bubbly and chatty hedgehog, and her newly-rescued friend, Dr. Quil Talonreach, who coincidentally, is a soft spoken vulture. Both of our players are rangers, and Quil has a specialization in medicine. Rosie is a Ranger of the Swarm, and Quil is a Fey Wanderer.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To have the best time possible at this table, you should have - - Internet access - Access to Discord - A webcam and microphone - Access to a Dungeons and Dragons character sheet (D&D Beyond is a great resource for this, but be aware that the Humblewood content is paid.) - A notetaking method - A friendly attitude and the chillest of vibes.

What Pierce brings to the table

This game will focus on the folks in the town of Houndsgard as they prepare for winter. You will be able to expand and upgrade the town, train the shopkeepers (and yourself!), and build relationships with your fellow townsfolk. You can expect to see- - Maps upgraded to reflect your progress as you make decisions and develop. - A colorful cast of NPC townsfolk with voices, full backstories, and individual quest lines. - A cozy ambient vibe (with music!) with the occasional whisper of the spookier things in the woods. - Rule of Cool, if you wanna do it, we can probably figure it out. - PDF access to the Humblewood source book in Discord. - A dedicated discord server, only available to me, you, and the other players.

Safety

How Pierce creates a safe table

The way you act at my table is imperative to being allowed to stay! I am very excited to go on this journey with you, but you’ll have to follow some rules. - We don’t meta game, god-mod, or power game. Meta gaming can be hard to avoid sometimes, but do your best! - A link to a Monte Cooke Consent list will be available in the dedicated discord server. - X, N, O cards are private, sent to me in DM, and never announced aside from the change of direction.
