About the adventure
Hundreds of years ago, the world of Barsaive was torn apart by the Scourge, a time when unspeakable entities called Horrors feasted on the minds and bodies of the living. The people fled underground into magical kaers, sealed away from the surface world in darkness and fear. Now, generations later, the wards have faded, the doors have opened—and the world above is changed. You are adventurers, rare individuals who channel magical abilities to shape reality. Whether drawn by purpose, curiosity, or gold, you now find yourselves in a world still haunted by the past. Forgotten magic stirs. Kaers lie in ruin. Horrors are not as gone as they seem. And an ancient, forbidden tome—the Book of Harrows—may be the key to Barsaive’s future... or the instrument of it’s demise! This campaign blends dark fantasy, mythic exploration, survival horror, and the heroic rise of adepts reclaiming a broken world.

About me
D&D to me should always be about fun and escape from the real world. I’ve been playing D&D on and off for 18 years as a player, and as a DM for the last 3 years! I run strictly homebrew one-shots and campaigns I’ve cobbled together myself from several inspirations, and the rule of cool has a big part at my table (as long as you can make it make sense within the world and story). I believe in D&D being high fantasy, so I don’t do modern campaigns, but I highly prize creativity, and out-of-the-box thinking. Let’s just have some fun!

Creating your character
Starting level 3. Character creation will be handled during session 0. Characters can be created on D&D Beyond or on paper. We will be using 2014 D&D 5e rules, and all applicable D&D 5e source books are allowed. Homebrew classes are allowed as long as DM looks over and approves first.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should have access to at the very basic, a mic. Webcam highly suggested to increase fun and immersion. Players should have a Discord account already set up for audio and chat, as well as a Roll20 account set up for video and maps. I'm something of a newbie on the platforms for Discord and Roll20 as well, so we'll be learning somewhat together.
What Megan M. brings to the table
I occasionally do character voices and am getting more practiced at them. I do utilize ambient music to set atmosphere. Combat is not strategy driven, but feel free to play to your strengths. I embrace the Rule of Cool for my games! I do curse during games which is why they're set at 18+ as well as occasionally dark/raunchy humor. Expect fun!
Homebrew rules
Character Creation: Roll 4d6's for each stat, re-roll 1's and 2's (any time a 1 or 2 is rolled) and roll three sets each of 6 stats and choose from the best group. Spell Matrixes: Only prepared/prechosen spells can be cast safely in this world through Spell Matrixes. Spells cast through raw casting without a matrix can trigger consequences. Specifics will be given in session 0. Karma Points: An expression of a hero's legend and magical force that binds character's to their destiny - think of it as pre-approved inspiration points. Specifics will be given during session 0. Artisan Skills: Before entering certain towns, strongholds, kaers, or protected areas, characters must perform a brief creative ritual—proof of their soul's integrity. This is used to show they are not corrupted by a Horror. Specifics will be given in session 0.
