About the adventure

This D&D 5e one-shot is designed for players who crave freedom, exploration, and meaningful impact on a living world teetering on the edge of war. Set in a sprawling realm of mountains, ancient caverns, and contested borders, the story begins with high stakes and hotter steel—players start as defenders of Orthiad, a dwarven stronghold under siege by mind flayer thralls. From this fiery opening, the party is entrusted with a critical mission: forge a hidden path through unstable, monster-infested deep tunnels using controlled demolitions, creating a covert insertion route for allied dragons and their riders. Their objective—strike at the core of the enemy's power, a mind flayer colony hidden within the underdark’s crystalline forests, feeding off the strange energy of a growing psychic storm. Players will explore diverse regions, from subterranean ruins to volatile frontlines, forging alliances and making dangerous choices as they push back the dark. It’s a world where every decision matters—diplomacy or blade, subtlety or siege—and where your actions shape the fate of entire factions. While this one-shot is ideal for seasoned adventurers, newer players with a taste for danger and discovery will also find their footing. You’ll need wits, weapons, and maybe a few allies to survive what lies beneath. Just remember—when you peer into the abyss, the abyss peers back.

About me

I am a Florida-man, tabletop game enthusiast, and hobbyist board game designer with a deep love for fantasy storytelling. I've been immersed in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition for over 6 years, serving as the Dungeon Master for a weekly in-person group for 4 of those years. With two full campaigns under my belt and many one-shot adventures, I strive to bring rich narratives, engaging worlds, and immersive roleplay to every table. Inspired by fantasy classics like The Lord of the Rings, The Inheritance Cycle, The Wheel of Time, and shows like Critical Role, I enjoy blending deep lore knowledge with creative game design to craft unforgettable adventures. Ready to roll? Worlds await.
