The Age of Umbra | A Daggerheat Campaign
Daggerheart | Campaign
About the adventure
In a dying world immersed in relentless shadow and nightmarish monsters, small communities hold fast to the light, hoping those who endure can find a way to save this broken realm before all is lost in the darkness... -- A century has passed since the God-King Othedias betrayed the Pantheon, proving divine punishment and abandonment by the gods that left the realm of Halcyon Domain shattered, desolate, and eternally cursed. Throughout this shadow-choked land of decaying fortresses and dreadful monstrositites, surviving communities cling to hope in the face of lightless oblivion. In the Age of Umbra campaign, you'll play heroic survivors who protect their community from the terrors beyond their walls, venture out into the unknown to hunt the nightamres that twist and grow with each fallen soul, seek answers to the curses that corrupt this world, and perhaps even discover a way to change its fate. -- TONE & FEEL Ancient, Daunting, Epic, Grim, Ominous, Terryfing, Tragic THEMES Apocalypse, Corruption, Darkness vs. Light, Hope, Redemption, Survival TOUCHSTONES Dark Souls, Kingdom Death: Monster, Berserk, The Seventh Seal, Blasphemous, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
Theater of the Mind
“Theater of the Mind” uses little to no visuals for scene settings and combat. Instead, the narrative imagery comes from the Game Master’s descriptions and character action and movement comes from Players’ descriptions.
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

How to prepare
You will need a working mic and there is the option for video, but there is no pressure there. Make sure to download Above VTT (there is a Google Chorme and Firefox Plugin). We will use Above VTT just for maps, music, atmospheric sounds, but you will access your character sheet via Demiplane. Players can either roll digital or real dice, that is up to you. We may switch to Roll 20 depending on how the intergration of Daggerheart Demiplane Nexus and Roll 20 works, but for the start Above VTT which we will dicuss in Session 0. In addition to this, there will be some Player Principles that will be discussed and that will help with developing your character for this setting/campaign.
What I provide
You can expect battle maps (both animated and stills), an immersive soundscape, and a GM who pours their heart and soul into creating a unique experience for their players.
Gameplay details
If you have checked out my profile you may already know my play style, but here is a breakdown of what to expect: As your GM, I know how valuable everyone’s time is and that you are trusting me to deliver a memorable experience. I do not take that responsibility lightly. With that said, I want to share what you can expect when joining one of my campaigns: WHAT TO EXPECT - A safe and inclusive space for everyone. I do not tolerate bullies or making others uncomfortable. We are here to have fun, tell stories, and escape from reality for a bit. Everyone deserves that opportunity and feels safe doing so. - Rules…yes, they are important, but if you can pitch me an idea that might bend the rules or it add some flavor to the narrative I am here for it! I am not here to be the rule police and ruin a fun/memorable moment because the rulebook said otherwise. So, if you have an idea or want to try something never be afraid to ask. I LOVE when players think outside the box and want to try unique things. It fills my GM heart with joy! With that said, this campaign would be considered rules-lite to allow for teenage shenanigans. - A player-focused story. - Doing my homework. I know every GM has their method of approaching each session, but know that I spend time each week planning various elements of the story, weaving in character backstories, designing battle maps, soundscapes, world maps, etc. You are investing in me to deliver and know that behind the scenes I am planning to make sure I give you a world-class D&D experience to the best of my ability each week. I am sure there are some things I am missing but those are some of the base expectations for what to expect in Session 0 and what you can expect from me as your GM. We will go into more details as we kick off the campaign. If you have made it to this point I hope to see you join one of my campaigns. I have a background in screenwriting/creative writing, GM Fallout: The Garden of Atom Actual Play, the Streets of Nevermore Podcast a narrative TTRPG audio drama, and have done voice-over work amongst other things. So, know that I will be working hard to deliver an experience you will not forget. Happy gaming and I hope to see you at the table! -GM Kylie Rose
