Rime of the Frostmaiden
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
Invincible overlords, a plot against the sun, and old gods; any or all may lead the far north into chaos, doom, or worse- can you halt the snuffing of civilization's flickering light in this icy land? Rime of the Frostmaiden is an adventure about beating the odds in a harsh, frozen environment while surrounded by unknown terrors! There are themes of horror, isolation, eternal night, paranoia, and ritual sacrifice which together make a unique and enjoyable experience- but just know that things will be tough, and there are no knights in shining armor riding by to save you (they probably froze to death on the boat here or were devoured by yeti in a blizzard)! Of course all is not doom and gloom in the dale- there are good folk here, but they need your help to keep the hearthflames burning! Clips from some of my sessions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skSi4oFDScs Games that I run have: Expert DMing and improvisational skills to roll with your decisions and ideas π§ββοΈπ A handcrafted setting, shaped and enjoyed by dozens of players over a decade πΊ Beautiful battlemaps π Spell effects π Voice acting π Danger & consequences for your choices βοΈ I run with a somewhat old-school mentality: life can be cheap and the world is full of danger, but I am a fan of the party. I want you to succeed! Your enemies though, they have their own ambitions- they're going to do their best to stop you. I love it when players get invested in their characters, but the dice will fall where they may; hold on lightly! The games that I run are very reactive and improvisational- your actions will have consequences, and you'll be presented with opportunities to alter the paths set before you.
The game starts at level 1. You can use 5e character options, or options from Level Up Advanced 5e. Most of my players use A5E characters, but some prefer 5e- they play fine alongside one-another!

Austin is an excellent game master who creates an immersive world mixing published content with his own twists. In addition to the many NPC voices he narrates, his improvisation is so natural that it is indiscernible from whatever has been planned. He provides a high-quality VTT environment with robust functionality and rich images. Extremely knowledgeable of game system rules, his own house rules are fair and balanced, as are his in-game decisions. Every game is always a quality experience.
Austin is an excellent narrator who runs games in several different systems and worlds. He is quite accommodating for his various player types and is a GM you can count on to deliver a quality experience. I appreciate his attention to detail and knowledge of the game rules. The Red Hand of Doom game I play with him on Sundays is run in his own world of Advaen and uses A5e (advanced fifth edition) which is a more veteran-forward ruleset. As a long time player I appreciate his administering the rules in a fair and non whimsical style. The man is the real deal without the fluff. I've had a group TPK under his running of the game and he did not hold back or break the fourth wall to twist fate in any way. You can imagine the last thing a DM for hire wants is a TPK. It takes money right out of their pocket. This demonstrates a large amount of integrity in the GM. He puts the game first; period. Austin has hundreds of maps, hooks, characters and pieces of art in some secret arcane vault stored in both his mind and on foundry. He has a knack for being able to pull pieces from this great ether and put them into play cohesively at a moments notice. We recently discovered a wizards tower found within a swamp of greenspawn we were exploring. The tower consisted of three floors and a basement all intricately designed with three colour switches and automaton/golem based security systems to prevent unwanted intrusion. The tower itself had crumbled after four hundred years of time. The spirits of the mages and apprentices that worked in the tower still lingered. We spent two entire sessions in this tower that we randomly stumbled upon due to a players poor use of the clairvoyance spell. One of the players told another player that he bet Austin completely made the whole thing up. Seemingly impossible as the intricacy of the design of the tower and the timey' wimey bit of the spirits from the past/present interacting with the players would certainly require planning and forethought. Austin was asked and begrudgingly lowered the fourth wall for a mere second... to tell us that indeed he had not planned the tower and put it together on the spot due to a random action from one of our party members. Truly incredible stuff... he wants you to always feel like the world has life and breath and brings you in. He lets you RP to that but also is careful not to have the game bog down with hours spent shopping or other nonsensical tasks. This is a DM who is both modern but classic in all the right ways. The game is called dungeons and dragons and with Austin you're guaranteed both.
I have been playing in Austin's games for well over 8 years now. Every session, every game, every world, is so fresh and creative it's like nothing I've ever played before. We have started many games together and I have loved every single one. Have been there for many beginners who have now been playing with him for a long time as well, he is amazing with new players and let's their creativity grow too.
The very first game was a fun way to create a character. It was very fast paced and chaotic but was a lot of fun. While the subsequent "character builder" arc slowed down a bit, I think that's because some of his regular players showed up and he wanted to allow them an opportunity to role play more. This is definitely a GM people build long standing connections with and it shows. May or may not be my style long term but we shall see! Having fun so far.
I was quite fortunate to stumble upon Austin, I was looking for a GM to run a CoS campaign and I found Austin's TikTok doing voices for Strahd and others and I was blown away. I contacted him and we worked something and now every Sunday I'm chasing the fumes of my childhood and having a blast. Austin is delightful, patient, and revels in the fun too.

Gameplay details
Players can expect relatively fast-paced 5e D&D tactical combat, roleplaying opportunities, and exploration of dark and dangerous locations. D&D is, as a system, focused on combat- but if you want to spend time forming relationships with villagefolk, or negotiating with foes, there are opportunities for such if you seize them! This is a fantasy world that includes combat, death, dangers, and magic. Please voice any issues (ex. arachnophobia) before or, if necessary, during play- this is an entertaining and engaging experience, mild discomfort may occur depending on the vividness of your imagination, but you should never be made more uncomfortable than you're comfortable with, if that makes sense :) 'Romantic' encounters are fade to black (the bard and the barman are into one-another, that night they meet, fade to black on that). Descriptions of blood, death, violence, etc. are present but are not a focus- the intent is to draw you into the scene, not to upset you with vivid descriptions of torture or death.

How will character creation work
The first session of the game will include a 'Session 0,' where we create characters together, discuss the party and any relationships between characters, align expectations for the game and more. If players are new to Dungeons & Dragons, we'll go over what to expect from a tabletop roleplaying game in general. It's fun once you realize that you're in an open world and can make the decisions you like (albeit with consequences ;) )! After the completion of this, we can begin the game with the remaining time!
